The Course

This established orthopaedic course is aimed at SAS doctors and SPRs to enable CPD update for their clinical practice, appraisal and revalidation. This course is designed to ensure good preparation for the FRCS Orth exam.

The Faculty

The Faculty is mainly of distinguished Professors and consultants who are experts in their fields.ManyoftheFacultypresentingonthiscoursearebasedattheRNOH,arenownedorganisation to address current concepts and controversies in clinical practice.

Course DirectorsProfessor Tim Briggs CBE

Afterhisseniorregistrartraining he was appointed to the Royal National

Orthopaedic Hospital as Consultant in 1992. His specialist interests are in orthopaedic oncology as well as surgery to the hip and knee. He was Medical Director at the RNOH for 15 years, ensuring a re-build and was President of the British Orthopaedic Association in 2014.

He was appointed as National Director for ClinicalQualityandEfficiencyfortheNHSin September 2015 and has been asked to lead and roll out his GIRFT methodology, developed in orthopaedics, across all surgical and medical specialties within the provider network.

Professor Briggs was made a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2018 New Year’s Honours List for services to the surgical profession.

Shenouda Gorgui Shalaby MB ChB FRCSEd MSc DIC

MrShalabyqualifiedinEgypt 1982. He had an elective at the Royal Post

Graduate Medical School (RPMS) 1980. AftertraininginEgyptandtheUKheheldan Honorary Senior Registrar post at the RPMS 1996. Experience includes research in reviewing outcome of Multiple Spinal Surgery over 3 years. Mr Shalaby submitted an abstract at the JBJS on Extracorporeal Shock wave therapy for nonunion and other orthopedic condition. He was appointed as a Locum Consultant in 2003. He had a Master of Surgical Science from Imperial College and Diploma Imperial College in 2003. Mr Shalaby was appointed as an Honorary Senior Lecturer with Imperial Collegein2004andAdjunctProfessoratAmericanUniversityoftheCaribbeanAUCUKCampus.HewasthenappointedasVice President of BOSA since 2009 and then President of BOSA in 2015. He had Deanery funding for training 1 year at Southampton university Hospital and 18 months at RNOH. He conducted a GIRFT audit review of 1 year UpperLimbSurgeryatRNOHandpresentedat the IOA. He has been an Associate Specialist since 2010 at Ealing Hospital NHS Trust which has since merged with London NorthWestUniversityHealthcareNHSTrust.
