HEY COWTOWN MOPARS PERFORMANCE TEAM!!! "IT'S SHOW TIME!" The car show will be here in just a few weeks now. Are you ready? I can't wait! It is going to be great! Rick and Willy will be in charge of security that will include parking. If you can help they will need more. We have some other positions open, if you can help contact me. We have several items that will be part of the silent auc-tion at the show. This will help raise more money for the Ronnie Sox Foundation. We have a $500 paint job from Maaco, 2 die- casts, a Don Garlits Book, some autographed apparel, a autographed football and there should be more. We will be selling the show shirts the day of the show for $15 and $5 of that will be going to the charity. We have 20 show sponsors this year and they are: Huffines CJD Lewisville, Carl's Hot Rods(Carl Meredeth), Mopar Memories(Dean Allen), Nickles Auto Works(Phillip Nickles), MAALT(Marty Robertson), Phoenix Transmissions(Greg Ducato), Texas Trailer Man(Bill Boon), Smith Ins Agency(Wally Smith),Terry Daniel Custom Trim & Mill work (Danny Henslee), Spry's Shell(Alan Spry), Blue Mound Automotive(Joe Siefkas), Ronnie Long Bail Bonds, Speed Tek, Central Oklahoma Mopar Assoc., Joe Smith Race Cars(Tommy Reynolds), Randy Buntyn CPA PC, Law Offices of Ron Wright, Texas Twist(Gary Powell), Maaco Paint & Body (Brian Mus-feldt) and Kirt Schuster Electric Corp. Several of these sponsors this year have made dona-tions above and beyond the normal required sponsorship. They are Marty Robertson , Danny Henslee, Tommy Reynolds, Ron Wright, Gary Powell, Brian Musfeldt and "Coca Cola". Our generous sponsors are always a vital part of the success of our show. THANK YOU TO ALL SPONSORS! See ya at the show! On April the 7th there will be a car show that will benefit the St Jude's Children Hos-pital, the same hospital group that your donations to the Ronnie Sox Foundation will bene-fit. Be sure and show your support at that show as well. You can find more details on the web site. On April 14th, 5:00pm at MAALT, Marty Robertson's place of business, we will have the goody bag stuff'n, cookout and cruise. Bring your old iron, a side dish and help stuff goody bags. See ya there. Last month we took final nominations and voted on the board members that will take office after the car show. They are Ken Castleman- President, Richard West-Vice President, Rick Mariano-Secretary, Dan Robinson-Treasurer, Ken Key-Membership, Kelly Hilla-Activities and Kick Maisenbacher-Newsletter Editor. Congratulations Cowtown Mopars Performance Team, your great new group of leaders for the upcoming year. Be sure and show them your support. We have had 2 races so far in the TMCCC schedule this year. Cowtown Mopars may have lost about half our race team, due to 4 new clubs forming, but that is not slowing us down. We have had 10 award winners after the first 2 races and lead in points again this year. See ya at the track! In closing I would like to say THANK YOU ALL for allowing me to be the President of COWTOWN MOPARS PERFORMANCE TEAM! Being on the board these last 5 years has been a lot of work and a lot of fun, not necessarily in that order. I have had the privilege of serving with great fellow board members. I have had the privilege of making a lot of new friends. I have truly enjoyed myself. One final thought "I'll be back". See ya soon! Beep! Beep! Mark Buchanan , Cowtown Mopars President

From the Vice President

It was a tough descision I had to make of whether or not to run for the VP position again this year. I have put in a lot of time working for the club and just needed a bit of a break. I will still be involved with the club as the web master so you will all have to put up me for a while longer. It has been a lot of fun working with the other board members and I feel that they have done more in the past two years to better the club than had taken place in a while. The club is now incorporated, we are having more activities than in the past and the show and race teams are showing everyone that this club is made up of winners! The present board has done an out-standing job with the upcoming car show and has spent the better part of the last 10 months working on putting this one together.... that is how a good team works. I want to wish Ken Castleman, Richard West and Kirk Maisenbacher and Rick Mariano the best of luck as the newest board members to come aboard, they will find working with Dan, Kelly and Ken is an easy task and they all work together well. Show your appreciation of the boards efforts by being at the car show this year. We want a huge turnout for this one! See you there! President Mark Buchannan called the March 18th general membership meeting to order at 5:30 pm. Guests and new members were recognized. Cowtown MoPar members Richard West, Dave Mandatto, and Ken Angyal won first place trophies at the Dallas Car Show held earlier in the day. President Buchannan asked the membership if there was any health concerns in the club. Mark then proceeded to discuss the Kennedale Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge held that previous weekend, the upcoming Shreveport MoPar Nationals, show sponsors, both regular and corporate. Rick Mariano spoke briefly on car show security. Volunteers are needed to help with this part of the show. Mark then asked the membership for any suggestions or comments on the show. Three judging teams will be on the show field with one team in reserve if needed. April 14th was designated as goodie bag stuffing and cruise night with locally prepared cuisine being served. May 5th the club will journey to Sunnyvale to attend the all- MoPar swap meet at Fast 440. Please keep referring to the web-site for time, directions, and updates. The spring picnic for both the Dallas and Ft. Worth Clubs are still in the planning stage at this writing. Also watch for the website for time and place. Club nominations were next on President Buchannan itinerary. Previously nominated for Vice-President, Treasurer, Membership Director, Activities Director, and Newsletter Edi-tor were Richard West, Dan Robinson, Ken Key, Kelly Hilla, and Kirk Maisenbacher. Ken Castleman was nominated and accepted the office of President, and Rick Mariano was nomi-nated and accepted the office of Secretary. The new and returning officers will have their du-ties start immediately after the Annual Cowtown MoPar Round-up,a tribute to Ronnie Sox. New parking passes have been issued to members and must be displayed in their vehicle to enter the parking lot. After a brief discussion on Denton (Northstar) Dragway, the 50/50 pot was won by Steve White. The March meeting at Billy Bob's Texas was adjourned at 6:30 pm by President Mark Buchannan. When I first started the duties of this office it was May 15th, 1999 under then President Dan Bell. I've gone through many presidents and board members, made many new contacts other club officers, and have seen this club continue to prosper under positive and not so posi-tive conditions. We now have a set of by-laws, have been incorporated, and have the highest respect of sponsors and general public. Many articles were written in this column; from car shows, races, hawaiian vacations to trips to Route 66 museum, WPC events, and balloon races. It has been an honor to serve you, the membership, all these years. Aloha and Mahalo to all. Submitted by Ken Angyal, Secretary, CMPT

Car of the Month — April 2007 The Sox & Martin 1967 Plymouth GTX

After a brief stint in the early funny cars, the Sox & Martin team went back to their roots.... Super Stock. This is the car that was taken to dealerships for their performance seminars and the car he won the 1967 NHRA Spring Nationals and US Nationals in. Powered by a Jake King built 426 Hemi, this was the car to beat in Super Stock during the 1967 racing season. During his career, driver Ronnie Sox won 5 national championships and 46 national events. Ronnie Sox lost his battle with prostrate cancer in April 2006. Buddy Martin is still active today racing with Bob Panella in Pro Stock. Thank you to both for giving us the guidance and the desire to follow in your footsteps and race Mopars!
