Steven Yoho of Long Beach, California and his wife, Nancy, cel-ebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in a very unique way – aBaseball Road Trip! These LA Angels’ fans enjoyed major leaguegames in six different ballparks, stadium tours of Camden Yardsand Yankee Stadium, the Babe Ruth Birthplace, the SportsLegend Museum, and the National Baseball Hall of Fame andMuseum, along with city tours and historic sites.

Lifelong baseball fans, Steven and Nancy didn’t even know sucha trip existed until a few months before they signed up. “Thegreat thing about this trip was we didn’t have to do anything –we just packed and went.”

While each of the baseball games were a highlight of the trip,Steven enjoyed the baseball “enrichments” that he wouldn’thave planned on his own, including the Yankee StadiumMonument Park between the bullpens. Steven says, “When yougo in the back of the stadium, you feel as though you’re in thegame itself.” Steven’s favorite ballpark to visit was the historicFenway Park with its Green Monster. “And we loved the varietyof foods at each different park.”

Although the couple had been to the National Baseball Hall ofFame and Museum previously, they preferred their experiencethis time, which occurred on their actual anniversary day. “We didn’t feel rushed, trying to see everything in the shortamount of time we had before,” said Steven. “On this trip, wetook our time enjoying the Nolan Ryan exhibit, the manyplaques, and the Abbott and Costello ‘Who’s on First?’ exhibit twice.”

Steven would collect the baseball cards of players he hadseen during these games every summer and, as a child, wouldwork out the stats of the players on the cards, which eventuallyled him to his career in Analytical Analysis. While Steven’s ownson was growing up, he coached his baseball team at LongBeach Little League Park, and continued attending baseballgames often. Steven claims that “this is the best trip if you are abaseball fan. Our goal is to go on a couple more.”

It’s calledDynamic Pricing and the way it works is based on the schedule.The criteria is the visiting team, month, the day of the week,and time of the game. For an example, we had two games thispast summer with the LA Dodgers playing the St. LouisCardinals in St. Louis. The first game was a Saturday afternoongame at 3:05 (prime time) and the second game was Sunday at7:05 (an ESPN game). The Saturday ticket was $79. The samelocation seat for the Sunday game was $39. The concept is nowtaking hold with most MLB teams. This has driven the prices upfurther especially if you travel during prime dates, which includetop teams.
