Exhibition - The State of Education
August 2019 to Spring 2020
In 1833, the government’s first direct financial involvement in education
began with a grant of £20,000. A relatively small sum, this signified the
beginning of the state’s involvement in building an education system that
we recognise today. We take a look at some of the early developments in
education from this time period and what school life might have looked
like for the teachers and pupils of what is now the London Borough of
Sutton at the time. FREE, drop in.
Exhibition - Arts of India
Wednesday 2 to Sunday 27 October
An exhibition capturing some of the vivid and colourful artforms of India
including paintings, textiles, silk paintings, worked and decorated stone. A
rangoli will be displayed (a colourful and complex pattern made from
artificial flowers). In partnership with Apsara Arts' in-kind contribution to
the art work and delivery of the workshops (Arts of India - Celebrating
Diwali 6 October: see page two).
Honeywood Embroidery Group
Wednesdays 2, 16, 30 October, 13, 27 November,

Excited by embroidery? Come along for an afternoon of stitching with
fellow enthusiasts. A chance to compare notes on your current project.

Adult Colouring Club

Join us for a calming, creative morning at Honeywood. Be inspired by our
beautiful surroundings.

Arts of India - Celebrating Diwali
Sunday 6 October 11:00-15:00
Join us for an immersive and colourful event including dance performance
with an opportunity to participate and learn the stick dance. Also henna
painting, see traditional costume and dress up in these beautiful fabrics.
A film show on the Diwali story.
In partnership with Apsara Arts' in-kind contribution to the art work and
delivery of the workshops.
Baby Sensory
Wednesday 9 October 14:00
An exciting 35-minute session filled with our fantastic interactive sensory
activities which will not only be lots of fun but will help with all aspects of
your little ones' sensory development. With music, instruments, dancing,
bubbles and much more, these sessions are not to be missed! £5, £3.50 if
booked more than a week in advance.

Pastels by the Ponds
Thursdays 10 October, 7 & 21 November and 5 December

A chance to be creative and experiment with pastels with Kriti in the
beautiful surroundings of Honeywood and Carshalton Ponds.
All materials will be provided. Admission and refreshments FREE.
Shared Reading Group
Fridays 11 October 11:15, 8 November 14:00 and
13 December 11:15
Shared reading groups bring people together through great literature to
talk, laugh and share. Just drop in and enjoy reading and listening to a
story or poem.

Musical Time Machines - A Musical World Tour

Join us for a trip around the world in sound, with a selection of historic
world recordings played on authentic period gramophones. We'll be
travelling around Europe, the Middle East, India with the odd detour to
Hawaii! Presented in the spectacular Edwardian billiards room by Ahmed
and his gramophones (instagram @techclassics). FREE, drop in.

Hidden Footpaths Walk
Sunday 20 October 14:00-16:00
A brisk three-mile walk with Andrew Skelton along familiar and not so
familiar highways and byways in Wallington, Beddington and Carshalton,
with historical input along the way.
Stout walking shoes/boots advised. Children over 12yrs. Therapy dogs
only. Starts and ends at Wallington Railway Station forecourt (weather
permitting).

Honeywood Mini Explorers - Victorian School
Tuesday 22 October 10:30-12:30
A Friends of Honeywood Museum Event
Aimed at six to ten-year-olds, the children will spend the morning at a
Victorian School - they will have Victorian Maths, English and Geography
lessons!
All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Musical Time Machines - Voices from a Century Ago

Before the CD, or even records, there was the humble wax cylinder; the
first ever format to bring recorded music into the home back in the 1890s.
Join us to experience a selection of authentic 1900s-1910s recordings
played on a cylinder phonograph, just as they were heard a century ago.
Presented in the spectacular Edwardian billiards room by Ahmed and his
gramophones (instagram @techclassics). FREE, drop in.
