What was the scoring sequence?

The scoring sequence I picked is the final match in the fifa world cup 2010 with Spain against Netherlands. Spain won, taking the world cup trophy home, the score was 1-0, this goal was made by Andreas Iniesta.

The final goal was scored in the last 2 additional minutes of the game. Once Spain scored, the match automatically ended with Spain winning.

The sequence of play leading up to the goal…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKc_6X0q11w - this is a video of the final goal during the Fifa World Cup 2010.

How was the goal scored?Toress got the ball past the Netherlands, who kicked the ball to a Netherland, although

the Netherlands lost control of the ball and Fabregas retrieved it. Fabregas passed it to Iniesta, who once got control of the ball, he volleyed it into the goal with a long distance kick.

What could the defense have done to more effectively try and stop the goal being scored?

• As I said before, most of the Netherlands defense were in the attacker zone, therefore leaving the goal unprotected, it was only until the end that the defense got the ball, but then didn’t have any control over it. The defense either could have made it earlier to the goal, seeing that Spain had a good hold of the ball. They should have managed their time better, tried to tackle it out of Spain and get better control of the ball.

Page 8: The Story Of Football

what individual skills have been used by the attacking team?

The Netherlands weren’t really attacking well in this scoring sequence as they never got the ball into their possession. Just before the goal was scored, Spain had the ball in their possession the most and the Netherlands didn’t try an tackle it out of them.

Page 9: The Story Of Football

Was there any movement ‘off the ball’ by other attackers to draw defenders away from the goal scorer? If yes what happened and

what was the effect of this?

Fabregas passed the ball to Iniesta, he took the ball away from the defender and just shot it into the goal.

Congratulations On Your Victory Spain!
