or standard in the life of Israel, and both the OT and NT

were used as a rule or stand for the Early Church we today

refer to the Bible as the canon, the text where God gives his

these categories:

Apostolic authority – must have been written by or contain the

teachings of an apostle

Antiquity – must have been written during the generation of apostles

(no later than 92/3 AD)

Orthodoxy – must adhere to the faith taught by the apostles

Catholicity – must be acknowledged as Scripture by a greater part

of the Church

Liturgy – must have been deemed proper for reading in church
