DAILY LITURGY for the Week of January 13, 2019

NEWS FROM THE GREEN TEAM MINISTRY

New Information on Climate Change In recent months two major reports on climate change have been issued. Both reports, the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Report and the Fourth National Climate Assessment, state that climate change is occurring at a faster rate than predicted and that current commitments to mitigate climate change are not sufficient to prevent serious global consequences.

At the UN Convention on Climate Change in Poland, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, addressed the representatives of over 150 nations and stated that the scientific data shows the urgent need for swift action. He stated that the transition to a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions is not only a problem within the domain of technology, but also a question of consumption patterns and lifestyles. "We have a great responsibility toward future generations. We know what we have to do, and what we have to do becomes an ethical imperative."

Global and National Action ** INDIA will ban all single-use plastic products by 2020.

** Starting in 2020, CALIFORNIA will require almost all new homes to have solar panels. This is part of a law which commits California to 100 percent clean energy by 2045.

** NEW JERSEY has set a goal of producing 3500 megawatts of electricity from offshore wind by 2030.

** LOS ANGELES, MEXICO CITY and other metropolises representing over 450 million people have pledged to go carbon free by 2050.

Action Here at St. Ann ** The solar electricity system for the school was turned on in November.

** The new energy efficient boiler has been installed in the school and has been operational since the beginning of the heating season.

** LED lights were installed in the school over the Christmas break.

** LED lighting has been installed at St. Michael's Church and parking lot. ** LED lighting and energy efficient circulating pumps will soon be installed in the Church and Faith Development Center.

** The remainder of the solar power installation will be

completed in the coming year.

What You Can Do ** Install a solar energy system for your home. If you live in New Jersey, this can be done at no cost to you.

** Purchase your electricity from a supplier who produces clean, renewable energy.

** Have an energy audit done on your home and receive financial assistance in implementing energy efficient changes.

If you are interested in any of these possibilities, contact Cullan Herald-Evans at [email protected] for further information.

Baptism of the Lord L u k e 3 : 1 5 - 1 6 , 2 1 - 2 2

The people were filled with expectation, and all were asking in their hearts whether John might be the Christ. John answered them all, saying, "I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming. I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire."

After all the people had been baptized and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."

REFLECTION We conclude the Christmas Season today with the Feast of the Lord’s Baptism. Saint Luke has already told us how the angels, the shepherds, and the magi have attested to the holiness of this child. Today we hear God call out from the heavens, “You are my beloved Son, with you I am well pleased.” Let us each reflect today on our baptism, when we were recognized as God’s beloved. May God be well pleased.

Mercer Chapter of Pax Christi at The Church of Saint Ann

On January 1, 2019 the Church celebrated the 52nd World Day of Peace. On the next seven weekends we will be able to read Pope Francis message of Peace. They are divided in seven themes which will be posted in the bulletin one theme per weekend.

#1 of 7 PEACE BE TO THIS HOUSE! In sending his disciples forth on mission, Jesus told them: “Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’ And if a son of peace is there, your peace shall rest upon him; but if not, it shall return to you” (Lk 10:5-6).

Bringing peace is central to the mission of Christ’s disciples. That peace is offered to all those men and women who long for peace amid the tragedies and violence that mark human history.[1]The “house” of which Jesus speaks is every family, community, country and continent, in all their diversity and history. It is first and foremost each individual person, without distinction or discrimination. But it is also our “common home”: the world in which God has placed us and which we are called to care for and cultivate. So let this be my greeting at the beginning of the New Year: “Peace be to this house!”

Update on the Irish Adventure

Those interested in the Saint Ann Parish trip to Ireland (September 25 – October 3, 2019) came on Monday evening to the presentation which

gave an inviting overview of what we will see as we tour the north and south of Ireland. The “COACH” that awaits our illustrious group has about 18 more seats if anyone else is interested. Call Sister Pat (609-882-6491 ext.115).

Ordinary Time Begins: Good Bye Red Poinsettias!

The Christmas season for the liturgical year officially ends on January 13, 2019, the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. The Art and Environment Committee will be preparing the church for Ordinary Time which begins on Monday, January 14, 2019. As a result, the poinsettias in the church are still beautiful and will look lovely in one’s home. The plan is that after the 12:30 mass and for as long as they last, the red poinsettias will be available for you to take home and continue to give them all the love and care they got while giving glory to God in St. Ann’s Church.

ADULT CONFIRMATION

PREPARATION 2019

Catholic, but not confirmed? We can help.

Not to be confused with the R.C.I.A. process (designed to bring people into full communion with the Catholic Church), this process is designed for Catholics (16 years of age and older) seeking the sacrament of Confirmation, who are baptized Catholic, and have had some instruction in the Catholic Faith. There are many reasons that a number of Catholics never had

the opportunity to confirm their faith through the Sacrament of Confirmation—a move, a change of parish, lost touch with my faith, or just out of the loop for a period of time.

If you are an adult baptized Catholic interested in receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, you are invited to a meeting on Monday evening, February 11, 2019 at 7:15 PM in the Faith Development Center. For questions, contact Gary Maccaroni at the parish office, 609-882-6491, ext. 116, or email him at [email protected].
