The following is from Fr. Dela Cruz’s flock notes dated May 21, 2021:

A MESSAGE FROM FR. LEANDRO 'Lines' DELA CRUZ

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

Pentecost Sunday reminds us of the presence of the Holy Spirit among us. The Book of the Acts of the Apostles recalls the Holy Spirit’s dramatic arrival among the struggling members of the little group who formed the embryonic Church.

This day is called “the Birthday of the Church.” It is also the fiftieth day (what the word “Pentecost” means) since the Feast of the Resurrection. The great three month Lent-Easter cycle of high celebration comes to its inevitable end. Weather wise, we have come from snow-clogged roads to dry streets; from overcoats to no coats; from virus to vaccination; from penance to a party-like celebration marking God’s promises come to fulfillment.

What Pentecost means is tantamount to rediscovering the purpose of our earthly lives, complete with their chapters of joy and sadness. As a Church we have gained the Holy Spirit’s inestimable insight to help us find our way forward to the eternal destiny Jesus promised.

It should be glaringly obvious, but still worth pointing out, that devotion to the Holy Spirit should be part of our spiritual lives. Without Him we can easily become victims of confusion. We have so many “why questions” that beg for answers. Without the Spirit, we only have our insular insights, If we fail to get some answers, we might flounder in our faith. We might act almost blind - like someone in a dark room at night.

Sometimes, we can become so disoriented by our lack of devotion to the Spirit that we are tempted to fill the vacuum by turning to clever but faulty imitations of His authentic guidance. So we might rub our rabbit’s foot in our anxiety. Worse, we may turn to astrology or other ideologies for the answers and analysis we need. The Bible tells us, on Pentecost, to “Look to the Spirit, and you will find what you need.” For He covers our minds and hearts with light. He leads us where to go.

Great news! We officially received the news that the New Jersey Bishops announced the lifting or end of the dispensation from Sunday/Holy Day obligation throughout the ecclesiastical province of New Jersey effective the weekend of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, June 6-7. This is also the first-year anniversary of the return to indoor public Masses. Those who are sick or fearful of contagion are excused. The New Jersey Bishops’ statement is included on the next page of this newsletter, kindly check.

To all our Confirmandi who received the Sacrament of Confirmation this evening, May 21st, congratulations. The parish fam-ily rejoices with you on this wonderful and momentous event of your life. We would like to express our gratitude to Msgr. Michael Walsh who administered the Sacrament to our 66 candidates. Many thanks also to our Religious Education team, catechists and volunteers, music ministry, ushers and sanitizer crew, and audio-visual ministry. Special thanks to arts and environment committee who did a wonderful job making our church look so beautiful and so ready for Pentecost.

This Sunday at the 12 pm Mass, we will also celebrate another confirmation ceremony. This time, it will be for four adult members of our parish family: Mary Joy Albano, Vincent Michael Albano, Dario Moriello and Katie Lyn Zimmerman. Our congratulation goes to the four of you as well. May the Holy Spirit guide you always.

As announced, our newly ordained permanent deacon, Deacon Gene Lanzoni will be celebrating his Thanksgiving Mass this weekend. Deacon Gene will deliver his first diaconal homily at all Masses. Just as the Holy Spirit descended upon the apos-tles on Pentecost Day, so will He speak through Deacon Gene to enkindle in us the fire of His love and strengthen us to go forth in the name of the Lord on this Pentecost Sunday.

After each Mass, Deacon Gene will be out in front of the church to receive your congratulatory greetings and/or personal gifts if you so desire to give.

Speaking of personal gift, I've been meaning to inform you here in my flock note that our church received a very nice and expensive Marian vestment from the family of Mr. & Mrs. Xavier Antony in honor of their son, Terry, who got married to Sarha in Washington. Mrs. Tessy Antony told me that part of their Indian culture is to offer donation to the church when a son in the family gets married. Thank you very much for your generous donation and wonderful tradition. May Terry and Sarha's married life be filled with much love and happiness.

Let's continue to stay safe and healthy....sanitize, wear your mask and maintain social distancing...and get vaccinated the soonest you can.

God loves you.

GOSPEL THE MOST HOLY TRINITY M a y 3 0 , 2 0 2 1 - MATTHEW 28:16-20

The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they all saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, "All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, there-fore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age."

REFLECTION “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” We say this when we enter a church, when we begin Mass, when we pray. It is our identity. It reminds us that we are in the presence of God. It joins us to millions of other Christians across time and space. It expresses our belief in the Triune God. Three persons in one God enabled God to become incarnate, enabled God to come down upon us in baptism, and enables God to be with us here today and every day. Let us contemplate the great wonders God has done and continues to do in our daily lives.

MEMORIAL DAY

History of Memorial Day Memorial Day, as Decoration Day gradually came to be known, originally honored only those lost while fighting in the Civil War. But during World War I the United States found itself embroiled in another major conflict, and the holiday evolved to commemorate American military personnel who died in all wars, including World War II, The Vietnam War, The Korean War and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

For all of those who have died while fighting for our country . . . YOU ARE REMEMBERED TODAY.

This spring, the Church of Saint Ann was selected to participate in NeXt Level, a program by the Center for FaithJustice funded by the Lilly Endowment. NeXt Level is a new approach to Youth Ministry that empowers young people to grow in faith, be formed as servant lead-ers, and to use their gifts to respond to a need in their community. Our five youth delegates will be speaking at all masses next weekend, on June 5th and 6th. We hope that many of you will participate in a parish-wide survey that they will be conducting.

Parish Mission Statement

The Church of Saint Ann in Lawrenceville is a

Roman Catholic family of faith, built on the inspiration of

past generations, to serve the community

by loving God and our neighbor.

We strengthen faith, celebrate the sacraments,

provide for the spiritual and corporal works of mercy,

educate across the lifespan, heal the spiritually broken,

and respect the dignity of human life.

We live the Gospel and seek Christ in all people.

USHERS and SANITIZING CREW NEEDED

We still need ushers and sanitizing crew at all weekend Masses (4PM, 9am, 10:30am and 12pm) to guide parishioners to their

assigned seats and to sanitize the church after all Masses. If you are interested, please approach an usher at Mass.

Coronavirus Prayer Let us pray….

Lord Jesus, at your command, the sick were made well! Come to our aid now, in the midst of the Global spread of the Corona Virus, that we may experience your healing love. Heal those who are sick with the Virus. May they regain their strength. Heal us from our fear, which prevents us from working together and with one another. Heal us from our pride, which can make us claim invulnerability to a disease that knows no borders. Stay by our side in this time of uncertainty, sorrow and fear. Be with those who died from the virus. May they be at rest with you in peace. Be with the families of those who are sick or have died. As they worry or grieve, defend them from illness and despair. Be with the medical professionals who seek to heal and put themselves at risk in the process. Be with the leaders of all nations, give them the foresight to act with charity and true concern for the wellbeing of everyone. Lord, Stay with us as some of us mourn, as many of us try to endure, persist, struggle and prepare. In place of our anxiety, give us your peace. Lord Jesus Christ, Heal us and protect us. Amen

Catholic Principles of Migration Immigration remains a critical issue in the United States. Aware of the high polarization around the immigration debate, it is good for us as Catholics to stay educated and in focus on this issue. As a reminder, we list below, the Catholic Principles of Migration, rooted in the Gospel, and found scripted in the pastoral letter concerning migration from the Catholic Bishops of Mexico and the United States: Strangers No Longer; Together on the Journey of Hope.

● Persons have the right to find opportunities in their homeland.● Persons have the right to migrate to support themselves in their families.● Sovereign nations have the right to control their borders.● Refugees and asylum seekers should be afforded protection.● The human dignity and human right of undocumented migrants should be respected.

Below also is listed an article of interest reminding us that we are called to live in communion. There is no Us and Them, but onefamily of God.
