Phi Gamma Delta - Alpha Gamma Chapter's Alumni Newsletter
Citation preview
Brothers,
This winter term has been very
productive and exciting for the brothers of
Alpha Gamma. As one of the larger frater-
nities on campus, we have made a great
impression in the areas of community ser-
vice, intramural sports, and campus in-
volvement.
Currently there are 28 brothers in
A-section with 23 brothers living in the
house this term. Unfortunately we are bid-
ding farewell to 2 dedicated brothers this
term; Alex Brodie and Zachary Heiliger.
These men have been a vital part of the
house and will be missed. On the other
side of the spectrum we had a very suc-
cessful pledge term, pledging 11 men with
great potential and looking forward to
adding an additional 2 men to the ranks
during the next summer term.
This year, the Alpha Gamma
chapter has committed itself to raising
money for and awareness of a terrible dis-
ease known as Tuberous Sclerosis Com-
plex (TSC). After being alerted that a past
Fiji sweetheart‟s child was diagnosed with
TSC, the chapter supported a fund raising
event at Mongolian BBQ by volunteering
to grill and showing up to donate. Plastic
wrist bands stating “GREEKS FIGHTING
TSC” were also ordered and are being
sold campus wide to raise money for the
cause as well. And as always our Annual
Three on Three Basketball tournament
this year will be raising money for the
American Red Cross.
Fiji has illustrated great pride on
the court this term. In basketball we took
2nd in A-tourney losing a close game to a
stacked independent team in the champi-
onship game. Water-polo and Volleyball
have not been completed yet but the Fijis
are competing ferociously.
The chapter is still committed to
seeking out leadership positions on cam-
pus. We currently have Brother TenHuisen
and Brother Shah serving as Vice Presi-
dent and Treasurer, respectively for IFC.
Five brothers serve on the Student Alumni
Council and another 5 are tour guides.
Currently we have two brothers working
with Camp Compass and will most likely
have a slew of Unit Buddies in the sum-
mer. We are also happy to hear of pledge
brothers taking on numerous responsibili-
ties, Matthew Jokerst is serving on the
Financial Council, and Nathan Johnson in
Student Alumni Council.
A group of brothers have left their
mark on the school in a unique way this
term. Brother Flynn and I were two of
three winners of the “Paint a Pillar in the
Library” competition. Our designs incor-
porated strong Fiji themes, including the
seal, Gamma, the Black Diamond, Persis-
tence and our five values. These 2‟ by 8‟
pillar faces will hopefully be a testimony
Phi Gamma Delta influence on the school
for years to come.
Finally, brothers, if at all possible,
please plan to attend the new Pig Dinner
on May 15, 2010. This past year‟s turnout
was excellent and we would love to con-
tinue to see more and more brothers there
every year. Come for the great food and
golf outing, but stay for the company of
your brothers and lifelong friends.
Pergé!

Since the previous newsletter, many repairs have been made to the house. The repairs include:
A boiler pump was replaced and now is properly working.
A sump pump, which ceased working, was replaced. Water which had flooded the basement was cleaned up.
A few areas in the house were repainted and cleaned up to improve the appearance of the house.
The dining room floor was buffed and cleaned in order to remove the scratches in the tile.
During the last pledge pro-
ject, carpet in the upstairs hall-way was replaced with new purple commercial carpeting.
The crib room was con-verted into a study area com-plete with dry erase board and desk.
Many of the chairs in the library and upstairs were re-placed.
Some of the projects that are still to be completed are:
Obtain quotes for insulation, boiler rebuilds, roofing repairs, and fire protection systems.
The electrical situation is also going
to be examined and then the appro-priate quotes will be obtained. As sent out in previous communica-tions, window replacement has been quoted for the house in order to improve insulation. There are still many projects that need to be completed but we are narrowing the list more every day.

changed the rules to allow re-
cruitment all year long, we
handed out no bids over winter
term. However, we have now
adjusted to the new rules and
from here on out, plan to rush,
pledge and have junior members
each and every term constantly
increasing our numbers.
We had a very successful
Rush term and are very proud to
have these new young men begin
their passage into the ranks of
brotherhood. We expect great

Brothers,
This year is going to be a very important time for the Alpha Gamma Chapter. We are currently in the process of recre-
ating a housing corporation and board of chapter advisors from the remnants of AGU Inc and the help of a handful of grad
brothers. Over the years, documents and habits have either changed or been lost and we are looking to get back on track with
a housing corporation and BCA so that we can do things right again and help fund projects to fix up the chapter house. An-
other reason for doing this is the decline of B-section; they have very low numbers and are unable to pay their own bills or
dues. A-section is still running strong with about 30 brothers and 13 pledges/intents. We would appreciate any help, financial
or advisory.
There have been a few reunions since the last newsletter. The class of 1969 celebrated its 40th reunion last Septem-
ber at the Homestead Resort near the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes on Lake Michigan; 16 brothers and wives attended. The A-
section pledge class of 1974 held a reunion in Las Vegas in October; 12 brothers attended. If you know of any other reunions
or events, please let me know and I will make sure to pass on the information.
Brother Councell ('03) is finishing up his history research project on the Delta Chapter of Alpha Gamma Upsilon to The Alpha
Gamma Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta. He hopes to have it finished for this year's Norris Pig Dinner, thanks to the help of many
grad brothers. We look forward to reading it and learning about the history of our beloved chapter.
Please visit our website at www.ketteringfiji.com; we try to keep it updated as best as possible. We also have a yahoo
group for grad updates. If you are not receiving these, please contact me at [email protected] and I will add you to the
group. We recently had Brother Grems ('00) stop by and share some interesting stories about
recolonizing. If you are ever in the Flint area, feel free to visit us, see the house, and share your
own stories. Once again, I ask you to remember that Phi Gamma Delta and the Chapter are
“not for college days alone,” and that you stay in touch.
