Club Chatter.... Do Paso Squares

A big thank you to all of you who worked the voting booth on June 8th . Anne Edgecombe you are an angel. Anne organized the whole thing and worked 15 hours.. Anne was a great leader made sure we balanced at the end of the day. THANK YOU. John and Wilma Johnson also worked the whole day and furnished coffee and donuts. John Wiley worked the ballot box and was our errand boy. Also working were Charles and Ruth Rose, Jean Olson, Lisa Haggert, John and Sue Seliska, Tom and Janet Mueller and Edie Kildow. Russ Foster worked before and after his job, what a dedicated bunch. THANK YOU.
Fair Time---- we will dance at the Fair as we do every year, July 29th (Thursday) 6 to 7:30 in the shade. We are fortunate enough to have Jay Henderson from Bakersfield calling for us. You must sign up if you want a free pass. Free Parking. You can park at most markets and B of A, take the scuttle bus to fair grounds and be dropped off at the gate. Wear your Badge! Square Dance apparel is preferred but not mandatory, no tank tops. Wear comfortable shoes. Last year we had over 4 squares lets go for 5 squares this year. We will be dark during the month of July other than the Fair. Darren will call for us on August 12 & 26th. Come dance with us, we have beautiful floors and air conditioning and lots of fun.

We enjoyed Mike Wright and look forward to Frank Lescrinier doing their things by calling some dances in June. Mike Wright may be little known in this area, but called a great dance to a small crowd. Sorry for those that missed out. We are going to have him again next year.
We are looking forward to some great fun coming your way with Bill "Tex" Gipson calling for us on Sunday, July 11 with The Ferraros cueing, and caller Don Benson with the Harris's cueing on Sunday, July 25. We will have a special "Back to the 50's" dance when Don Benson and the Harris's come, so locate your poodle skirts and 50's fun shirts for this dance to kick up your heels with us, and hopefully some former Poly Twirlers' may attend this dance too.
Hope to see everyone at the fair on the 29th for the square dance demo. Edie Kildow is arranging that one and has booked Jay Henderson to call for us.

By the time this Chatter reaches you we have had already had our 2nd Round Dance Party Night on June 26th. We plan to have our next one on Saturday, September 26th. Please put this date on your calendar if you are a round dancer. We always have good food, good conversation, and good dancing on these nights.
Don Horton had his first cateract surgery on June 17th and will be having the second eye done on July 1st. He is doing well- just no lifting or bending over for a few weeks. Judy is facining eye surgery on July 27th because she has a “macular pucker” on her left eye that needs to be surgically removed.
Janice Newman, a regular round dancer at our club and Pismo & Taws, had wrist surgery during June and is recovering nicely. She has a “pretty red cast” on her right wrist.
Saturday, July 10th, is our “Summer Casual Dance” with Darren Galina. Feel free to dress Hawaiian. Also, we welcome dancers from Dave Rensberger’s class to come and join us. I’m sure Darren would be happy to call some mainstream tips.
I’m looking forward to seeing all of you at our dances.

Happy Fourth of July! Summer is certainly here, and so are the tourists! Maybe some of them are square dancers??? As you know, we will be dark on July 3rd in honor of the holiday weekend, but we will be back on July 17th with Jay Henderson. So, if you meet any of those tourist dancers, be sure and invite them over! In August we will be dancing to the calls of Eric Henerlau on the 7th and Rick Hampton on the 21st. And, don’t forget, we will be dark on Sept. 4th in honor of Labor Day. Of course, as far as I know, Karen McDonald will be there on each dance night to cue rounds. And, don’t forget our Thursday night Advanced workshop with Dave Rensberger…some of you (and those tourists) might want to brush up on your skills! Hey, while we are on the subject, the Pismos ‘N Taws are starting to plan a new beginners class. I don’t have an official starting date right now, but now is the time to start talking to people you know! Tell your relatives, neighbors, friends and anyone you like to start thinking about square dancing. Heck, even tell people you don’t like, once they start dancing you may decide you like them after all! Collect those phone numbers and addresses so we can be sure and call them or send them a special invitation once we get started. New dancers are the future of square dancing, we just have to bring them in. So, start now!! Wedding bells in the Pismos ‘N Taws!! We want to send our congratulations and best wishes to Gene and Joyce Hershberger who were married in December (but we just found out!). All the best to both of you. And thank you Gene for letting us use your lovely home for our last club meeting. A big
thank you also goes out to Cliff and Susan Courtney for serving as Club Coordinators for the last three months, and to Charlotte Wright (and Sherm) for taking on the duties for the next three months. And to all of you who support our club in many different ways, thank you. Your support keeps us going.
