A Fantastic Fall

If you haven't sensed it already, we are poised for a fantastic fall at First Baptist Clemson. The

month of September, while officially still summer, ushered in the beginning of our fall ministries

for college, youth and children and all three of these ministry programs are off to a great start

with retreats, lock-ins, bible studies and worship.

Our Sanctuary Choir is back in fall form as they offer musical blessings each week in worship and

for the past several weeks our worship music has been infused with the addition of a brass

ensemble. Our Sanctuary has been brightened up with the addition of four worship banners

symbolizing God, Christ, The Holy Spirit and the Trinity.

Our fall CORD classes are entering their fourth week and of course we are all celebrating the

return of Louie's Wednesday evening meals.

The month of September also included Tiffany's return from Sabbatical (yea!) and a time of

transition for our college ministry. I am happy to report that our fall college ministry (CSF) is

active and vibrant. The current CSF officers (Katherine Neal, Jacob Barnes, Kylie Gomes & Zack

Doyle ) and several key lay leaders (Jenny Garrity, Walt & Marsha Ayers, Kyle Young, and Tim

Dunmyer) are providing great leadership and allowing for our students to continue to receive

quality fellowship and spiritual growth.

And this is just September! The month of October will be very exciting as we Celebrate Our

Family of Faith culminating with a homecoming service and banquet on Sunday, October 26th.

On Sunday, October 12th we will take a photo of our congregation so please plan to attend

worship that day. October will also include our World Communion Service with the Chinese

Congregation, our month long food drive for Clemson Community Care and our church-wide

Fall Family Fun Festival on Wednesday the 22nd.

The month of November ushers in All Saints Day - when we remember and celebrate the lives of

the saints who have passed away this past year, Deacon ministry affirmation, our Community

Wide Thanksgiving Meal, our first Family Promise hosting week, and the beginning of Advent.

And for the first time, we will enjoy a church-wide Christmas banquet on Sunday evening,

December 6th. Like I said, it’s going to be a fantastic fall at First Baptist Clemson and I hope you and your

family will join us as we grow in Christ and grow in fellowship.

Grace & Peace, Rusty

Mike Church Celebrates 31 years on Staff at FBC Clemson We have been blessed for the past 31 years with the work, service, and friendship of Mike Church. He is a man who enjoys helping others and sharing their load. You will often hear Mike whistling in the church halls as he goes about his work. He takes great pride in keeping our facilities in good condition, all the while working behind the scenes as a partner in the ministries of the FBC Clemson. Please take a moment to consider the many ways that Mike has blessed our Church family over the years as custodian, chaperone, Director of Facilities, and friend.

The Daniel Plan Taught by - Crossie Cox and Nancy Linvill (Room #212)

Romans 12:1-2 says, “…give your bodies to God…” Our bodies belong to God and he wants us to be

healthy. “The Daniel Plan” is a forty-day journey to a healthier life. The journey was designed by Rick

Warren, author of “The Purpose Driven Life”, to explore five essential parts of a healthy life: faith, food,

fitness, focus, and friends. This Cord class will view a Daniel Plan video and then divide into small groups

for discussion. Members of this Cord class will be encouraged to support their group friends through-

out the weeks of this journey.

pressures and ramifications of an Israeli and

Palestinian State resolution. We will also

Clemson Community Care

Dedicated Food Drive October 2014 Each church in the Clemson, Central and Pendleton area has signed up for a month long dedicated food drive during 2014. First Baptist Clemson chose October because it is World Hunger Month. Clemson Community Care has experienced an increase in client visits each month this year, so our efforts this month are critical to meeting the needs of the CCC pantry which, on average, gives out 1,000 pounds of food every day they are open. Each member of our church is encouraged to make this a special emphasis in their family during the month of October. So add a few extra items to your buggy then bring them in on Sunday. Let’s collect a “TON” OF FOOD this month.

Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God. Proverbs 14:31

Clemson First Baptist is partnered with the St. Andrew’s Parish to participate in Family Promise for the Pickens County area November 9 to 15.

We will host several families during this week who are homeless (The number is limited to 14 persons). They will arrive on Sunday afternoon and stay for one week. During the day, the children will go to school or day care. The parents will go to work or the Dream Center in Easley. They meet with case workers and others who will help prepare them for work and help with their needs. The families leave early in the morning and as church hosts we are responsible for providing breakfast and a bagged lunch. Each night when the families return around 5:30PM we will eat dinner with them, visit and help the children with homework if needed. We will have two hosts to stay each night with the families and the day ends around 10:00PM We will need volunteers to: Donate items, set up and dismantle the bedrooms on Sundays and transport to the next church, help with breakfasts, lunches, and kitchen cleanup each morning, prepare evening meals, greet and visit with the families, tutor students, stay all night, and wash bedding, and towels Items you may want to donate: For the bedrooms: Bedside lamp for each room, twin sheets & pillow cases in near-new condition, twin bedspreads or comforters in good condition, washable blankets in good condition. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same. We have made a lot of progress but still have a long way to go. Join us on October 19, Pink Sunday at FBCC, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

All children and youth, and their families are encouraged to collect and donate items for this wonderful mission opportunity. On November 2nd, we will have a packing party to pack all of the collected items into shoeboxes, and send them off to be delivered to children across the world. We are collecting shoe boxes all season long! Below a list of our focus for the month of October:

The schedule is: Sunday Mornings: 9:00AM—Instrumental Ensemble Rehearsal for Worship (orchestral instruments) Sunday Evenings: 4:45PM—Youth Choir (grades 6-12) 5:45PM—Younger Children’s Choir (grades 1-3) 5:45PM—Older Children’s Choir (grades 4-5) 6:30PM—Youth Handbell Ensemble (grades 6-12) 7:00PM—Adult Handbell Ensemble Wed. A NEW THING The Music Ministry has expanded the Music Intern Ministry (scholarships) to include instrumentalists as well as vocalists. Because of this expansion, a new opportunity has emerged for those who play orchestral/band instruments. This fall we have an Instrumental Ensemble playing for worship each Sunday morning. Rehearsals are at 9:00AM, so bring your instrument and give it a try!

“Celebrating Our Family of Faith” - October 2014 Plans continue in preparing for a month-long worship series celebrating the family of faith at FBC Clemson: past, present, and future. This will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate God’s presence among us and through us. This series of worship experiences will culminate on October 27 with a Homecoming including a good old fashion “dinner on the grounds,” or in our case, “dinner on the floor...gym floor that is!” The worship series will include morning worship on October 5, 12, 19 & 26. Begin inviting folks to Homecoming now. Christmas Choir Yes, there will be a Christmas Choir again this year. The choir will lead in a musical worship experience on Sunday, December 14 at 10:30AM. The Christmas Choir is opened to youth and adults. Rehearsals have been scheduled for those who wish to sing. You can, of course, come to any Wednesday Chancel Choir Wednesday rehearsals as well. The schedule is: Sunday, November 16 - after worship (lunch provided) 12:15PM-2:30PM Wednesday, December 10 - 6:00PM-8:15PM Saturday, December 13 - 6:00PM-8:00PM You can hear the music online at http://www.firstbaptistclemson.com/#/worship/christmas-choir

There is a strong relationship between the Church and the Foundation. Endowment gifts to the Foundation result in investment income coming to the Church in perpetuity to supplement programs and activities in the annual Church budget. Endowments in the Foundation can be restricted funds to a specific program or activity of a donor’s choosing. Or the Endowments may be unrestricted with earnings spent at the discretion of the Stewardship and Finance Ministry Team. Gifts can be a legacy for an individual or a family or a memorial. Building maintenance, youth programs, music programs and various missions are some examples of programs and missions to which the use of earned income every year from endowments can be directed by a donor.

And God saw everything that He had made, and, behold, it was very good and He approved it completely. Genesis 1:31a

This past week the Clemson Tigers for Tigers (T4T) Club celebrated Tigers Always Conservation Week. The numbers of tigers in the wild, as well as the locations in which they can be found, are shrinking. Despite laws and raising public consciousness, poachers and others continue to kill these magnificent cats. Humans are not doing a very good job of stewardship with these creations of God. Our love for God should be reflected in the way we treat His creatures and the planet He gave us.

Unfortunately, the decline of tigers and other species can be directly correlated to human activities. Even when we are not killing animals ourselves, accidentally or inadvertently introducing new species to a location can spell disaster for local species. These introductions do not even have to be predators – look how the English sparrows crowded out small birds like wrens and bluebirds. The rats from ships have spread disease and destruction all over the world.

When God asks us for a recap of our lives and activities for Him, will it be enough to simply say “I didn’t kill any tigers” when it comes to being a good steward of His Earth?
