the 7th grade who wish to be confirmed are asked to sign the registration form posted on the parish
bulletin board. The schedule of classes is posted there for your convenience. The Bishop’s Visitation

The Community Dinner on the 30th: is being hosted by the Members of the Par ish, Youth
Group and the Confirmation class.
On Sunday, January 31, 2016 we will also have our Annual Meeting and Vestry elections. Eve-
ry Episcopal Church in New York State is required by the New York State Religious Corporations
Law to hold an annual meeting once a year on a date designated in its parish By-laws. St. James’ By-
laws have fixed the last Sunday in January, at an hour chosen by the Vestry, to be the designated day
for the annual meeting. The purpose of the annual meeting is to elect one Church Warden (two
Wardens plus nine Vestry members make up the Vestry, i.e. “Board of Directors”) and three Vestry
persons. Candidates are selected from the congregation. Furthermore, the annual meeting is a means
of sharing reports on the finances and program life of the parish. To be a qualified voter the By-laws
state: “Persons of the age of eighteen years or more belonging to the Parish who have been baptized
and are regular attendants of its worship and regular (financial) contributors to its support for at
least twelve months prior to such annual meeting, and who are actually present (this means no
absent ballots allowed) shall be qualified voters.”
The annual meeting is set to begin on January 31, 2016 at 11:45 a.m. in the Parish Hall. THERE
WILL BE BOTH SERVICES THAT DAY! The polls will open for voting after the 9:00 a.m. Eu-
charist. The polls will close at 11:45 a.m. just before we start our pot-luck luncheon. Please come and
be a part of our Annual Meeting! Father Carl+

Sunday School News! December was a very busy month for the St. James Sunday School! Everyone has been very busy with classes and our fabulous teachers are doing a great job sharing the love of Christ with your children! Please feel free to let us know how your child is responding to Sunday School. We value your sugges-tions and ideas about making this a great experience for all! The students selected several angels off of the Angel Tree to support the Or-ange County Safe Homes Angel Tree initiative. They were able to make their purchases with their earnings from the Mum Sale in the fall. Their gifts were blessed during Sunday service. The 5th Annual Saint James Cookie Festival was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who baked and shopped for cookies. Thank you also, to all of our volunteers who helped to make things run so smoothly. We will be asking the children to think about an outreach project where they can utilize part of the proceeds from the sale to help people in their community. We can’t wait to hear their ideas! More to come…Special thanks to Judy Jonas for organizing the Christmas Pageant. This is a wonderful tradition at St. James. We are so grateful to Judy and her daughters for this ministry Please feel free to contact us with any questions: Bryan Giudice [email protected] or Jill Croucher [email protected]

St. James’ Church THE TOWER CHIMES January 2016
St. James’ Episcopal Church, Goshen, N.Y., established 1803
From your Senior Warden . . . . “Christmas bells are ringing”, and what a glorious sound to once again hear our own bell calling all to worship. We owe many thanks to those who helped decorate, polish the altar silver and otherwise ready our church for this Christmas season. It never fails to take my breath away when I see the church on Christmas Eve. Let’s hope that our Twelfth Night Celebration attendees will appreciate the warmth and beauty of our magnificent building. Sunday, January 10th at 3:00 pm we will host the EpiscoBuild choirs and musicians as they perform to raise money for EpiscoBuild/Habitat for Humanity. The goal is to complete construction of the sixth home in the Newburgh area. Free-will donations will be gratefully accepted and we will conclude the program with a festive reception hosted by The Vestry. Please plan to join us and support this wonderful partnership and the hope that they give to so many. If you can-not attend, donations may be sent to: EpiscoBuild/Habitat for Humanity, 125 Washing-ton St., Newburgh, NY 12550.
I wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year! Respectfully, Debby Brown, Warden

STEWARDSHIP January 2016
I wish everyone a Happy and Safe New Year. It is the start of a new calendar year. The Stewardship
campaign for 2016 ended with 98 pledges totaling $ 199,145. If you have not made a pledge for 2016,
it is not too late to submit one. I want to thank everyone who made a pledge for 2016. We need 100%
support of the St, James membership in order to accomplish the things we should be doing for Jesus
Christ.
It is our responsibility to love God with everything we have, with our heart, mind and strength. In this
way we glorify God in who we are and in everything we do. Our faithfulness to the task can be summa-
rized with the word “ Stewardship” . The dictionary defines stewardship as “ the responsibility of man-
aging some assets or affairs or property of someone else. “ Stewardship is managing something that is-
n’t your own. Stewardship is the key to understanding the Christian life.
There are two basic principles of stewardship. The first is found in Genesis 1:1” in the beginning God
created the heavens and the earth” God created everything. He owns everything. But God also sustains
creation. The book of Colossians tells us that God holds everything together. In Genesis 2;15 it says “
The Lord took man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work and take care of it. From the very begin-
ning. Even before the Fall, it has been the place of human beings to manage what God has created. The
second principle of stewardship is: You and I are to manage what God owns.
We have experienced the birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas during December as we entered the new
church year. We have experienced many moments during the year. We need to remember God during
these various moments in our lives .
Happy Moments Praise God
Difficult Moments Seek God
Quiet Moments Worship God
Painful Moments Trust God
Every Moment Thank God
“ YOUR TALENT IS GOD’S GIFT TO YOU “
“ WHAT YOU DO WITH THAT TALENT IS YOUR GIFT TO GOD “
Ed Fritsche, Stewardship Chairman
THANK YOU!
Thanks to the overwhelming support of this Congregation, we were able to fulfill all the wishes for 32 Moms and Children being sheltered by Safe Homes. We delivered over 200 gifts
and gift cards. By the last day of the in-gathering not an Angel was left on the Tree.
Thank you also to the Merry Band of Helpers who do the huge job of organizing the gifts, check-
ing the lists to see what might be missing, shopping for whatever is needed with the money that
was donated, and then packing the gifts in bags by family and delivering them to Newburgh to Safe Homes' office. This is an amazing Parish Outreach. We are so blessed as a Community, and
the generosity of sharing our blessings is truly doing God's Work. Thank you all so much.

On Super Bowl Sunday tens of millions of people will enjoy the warmth of friend-
ship and the satisfaction of food and drink while watching the Super Bowl football
game on television. Unfortunately, at the same time, countless other people will
feel cold air against their flesh and hunger within their stomachs.
An effort has been born that seeks to transform the Super Bowl into a
“Souper Bowl’’ for the needy. The “Souper Bowl” is a unique interdenominational
effort to glorify God and care for our brothers and sisters in need.
Here’s how it works: please give one dollar & one canned
good as you leave worship on the weekend of the Super Bowl. Youth from your congregation will collect the money and canned goods and
then send the contributions DIRECTLY to the Goshen Ecumenical Pantry. Congre-
gations across the nation are then asked to call “Souper Bowl” headquarters with
the results of their efforts so that totals can be promptly determined and released.
(Congregations, please call John Strobl at 294-9004 with your totals; he will report
the totals to the “Souper Bowl” headquarters for the Food Pantry).
Here’s some background: the effort began in a Columbia, SC church in 1990.
That year $5,700 was raised in Columbia. Last Year 6,690 congregations across the
nation raised $8,075,434. The Goshen Ecumenical Food Pantry raised $2,382.35.
Please join in partnership as we seek to Love the Lord our God…and Love
our neighbors…in this simple yet significant way.
