Welcome to summer of 2013 in your Bay View Library! If you drive by the Bay View Library, you will see the most obvious change this summer and that is the new handicapped accessible entrance. It will now be much easier for all of our patrons to access the wonderful books and programs available in the Library! With new landscaping and tile work, this should be as beautiful as the original entrance and much easier to get in and out the front doors!

Inside, you will notice some changes in personnel as well. Sadly,

our two morning librarians, Katie Allen and Mary Tsaloff, have resigned and the board has decided to go to a volunteer staff for the morning hours. You will see many of the same smiling faces you have seen over the past years, as well as some new people who are excited about helping you select books to read over the summer! Ellen McGill, our wonderful afternoon librarian, will greet you from 1:30 to

4:00 with her reading suggestions and helpful group of volunteers.

And speaking of books, with new books ordered and also donated, there will be so many great choices for children, teens and adults that we hope to see you often for great new reads!!!

Library hours for pre-week starting June 10th will be 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. every day. Please save Sunday, June 23rd, from 3 – 4 p.m., for our Michigan Notable Authors series.

Bay View Hosts Virtuoso Piano RecitalFeaturing Interlochen Arts Academy Graduate, Chaojun Yang

This special performance is a fund-raising event in Voorhies Hall, Saturday June 1 at 4 p.m. to assist Chaojun Yang in following her dreams in accepting her admittance into one of the thirteen music schools/conservatories where she was accepted.

ChaoJun Yang was born in May of 1995, in Shanghai, China. She is currently a senior at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan, studying with Dr. Michael Coonrod.

When she was four years old, ChaoJun began studying piano under Lin Eryang and Ding Chengzi. In 2004, she was admitted to the Music Primary School affiliated with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, studying under Professor Minduo Li, Zhe Tan, and Natalia Filippova (Russia). She was the only pianist to be cited as an outstanding student in the school for six consecutive years.

At the age of 5, ChaoJun attended the “House Garden Cup” Young Artist Piano Competition in Shanghai and won first prize. At the age of 6, as a member of the Shanghai Expo Delegation, ChaoJun was admitted to perform a solo concert for 300 honored guests of governments from 88 countries in Paris, France. As a result, she was called “The Little Expo Angel” and “The Supernatural Child of Music.”

From 2001 to 2004, ChaoJun received outstanding ratings for her piano exams, and at age 8, she passed Piano Level 10 with all excellent performances. During this time, she attended the Shanghai Young Artist

Piano Competition, winning the first prize more than sixteen times. In 2002, 2003, and 2004, ChaoJun took part in the Shanghai Student Arts Festival Young Artists Competition, where she won successive awards.

From 2002 to 2008, ChaoJun was invited to France, Australia, Hong Kong, the Philippines, North Korea, Poland, Croatia, Britain, the USA, Canada, and Germany where her performances consistently received a warm welcome.

Performance pieces include: Bach, Prelude and Fugue in C Major, BWV 870; Beethoven, “Waldstein” Sonata; Chopin, Etude in A Minor; Liszt, Hungarian Rhapsody in E-flat Major – plus, a few special surprises!

Listen to ChaoJun perform Live from Studio A on WIAA, Interlochen Public Radio, Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. Watch Chaojun’s spectacu-lar videos at www.gofundme.com/2jp97c

This Hunger Walk provides food and hope for those who have expe-rienced natural or manmade devas-tation. Church World Service sent $750,000 to aid victims of Hurricane Sandy and more recently shipped over 1,500 Emergency Cleanup Buckets filled with cleaning supplies to flood victims in Illinois.

The Little Traverse CROP Hunger Walk, June 29th in Bay View, is a healing step in the right direction in a very troubled world.

Katy Bayster (348-2017) and Mary Jackson (810-407-1169) get ready to co-chair the Ninth Little Traverse CROP Hunger Walk kickoff - 9:00, Saturday May 25, Emanuel Episcopal Church!
