THE TRAGEDY OF SEPTEMBER 11TH

United Airlines Flight 175 impacts the south side of the South Tower of the WTC between the 78th and 84th floors at a speed of over 500 MPH at 9:02 A.M. Parts of the plane including an engine leave the building from its north side, to be found on the ground up to six blocks away. The North Tower was hit at 8:46 A.M. between the 94th and 98th floor.

Hundreds of WTC employees above the blast were hopelessly trapped as emergency personnel could not reach them. Some screamed while others cried, prayed, and even jumped.

Lives were changed forever as a regular, ordinary Tuesday in New York City turned into a tragedy of historic proportion. Emergency personnel as well as regular civilians came together to assist the wounded.

It took over 8 months to clean up the dust and rubble that overcame the city. Firefighters and other emergency individuals worked tirelessly to find any survivors. An unofficial count of 20 were found and saved in the collapse of the towers. Others were located, but could not be pulled out and died deep in the debris.

More than 2,600 people died at the World Trade Center; 125 died at thePentagon; 256 died on the four planes. The death toll surpassed that at PearlHarbor in December 1941. As stated in this final picture it is imperative that we never forget the tragic events of Tuesday, September 11th. We honor those who lost their lives as we remember their sacrifice.
