July 2019

Month of the Precious Blood

Dear friends in the Lord:

In Kenya, most of the population is under 25 years old. The family always serves as the domestic Church — but

with so many young people, families in Kenya have a special responsibility to encourage the spiritual development

of their children. With your support for the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa, Catholic families in Kenya and

throughout Africa can do just that. Thanks to your generosity, the Church in Kenya has trained new ministers to

help families build communities of love and foster a culture of life.

These new ministers help families build stronger relationships with one another and with God. Families are

deepening their faith and learning practical skills like active listening and conflict management. As the family

becomes stronger, so too does the Church.

Support the Solidarity Fund on August 10/11. The Church needs strong families to be witnesses to the joy of love.

The Church in Africa needs your help to ensure that all the faithful have the resources to help them grow in our

faith. To learn more visit www.usccb.org/africa.

With this letter, I invite you to be as generous as you possibly can be in making a sacrificial offering to this crucially

important and necessary ministry of the Church.

With gratitude and prayerful best wishes, I am,

Faithfully in Christ,

+Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan

Archbishop of New York

UNCLE AL’S THRIFT SHOP

With July now behind us, summer is about one-half over. That’s usually when your summer wardrobe gets

tiresome, so what do you do? Take a trip to a mall where many stores are already stocked with heavier fall

clothes? Whoa, not so fast! There are lots of summer days left. Uncle Al’s is the answer, where a good selection

of warm weather clothing is available. Not just women’s either — there are very nice polo shirts and short-sleeve

casual shirts for men. Need shorts? Women’s and men’s are $1.00 and children’s are $.50. Our volunteers are

busy pricing newly donated items each day the shop is open. And that’s Monday, Wednesday. Friday and

Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

Do you need some extra dishes or silverware for summer visitors? Uncle Al’s has those too. There are bed linens,

tablecloths, curtains, pillows, lamps, lots of things to spruce up your home. You never know what you might find

at Uncle Al’s. That’s why it’s fun to browse — just make sure you walk through twice because it’s easy to miss

that special one of a kind item.

All proceeds benefit St. Joseph-Immaculate Conception Church.

Church and Parish Hall Handicapped Access Ramps

Now that the ramp on the Parish Hall is finished, the wrought iron railings can be measured properly and

fabricated. Demolition of the old ramp on the side of the Church is complete and construction of the

new foundation has begun. Temporary railings will be in place until the wrought iron ones are installed.

We thank you for your patience during the construction process.

Feast Day August 9

Humility is to the various virtues what the chain is to the Rosary: take away the chain

and the beads are scattered; remove humility and all the virtues vanish.
