WOODLAND LODGE #81FROM THE SOUTH- THE PILLAR OF BEAUTY

August has been a quiet month in Woodland Lodge with no degrees scheduled as of now. Thedinner was also a very quiet evening with a very small turn out. We did have enough brotherspresent to take various chairs to open lodge and conduct business. We did have one guest onthe sidelines, an Entered Apprentice from Arizona, brother John O’Conner who will be aregular visitor as he is working on an advanced degree at UC Davis. Of course the WorshipfulBrian Walker, Inspector of the 418th Masonic District was visiting. It was mentioned thatWorshipful Walker may be considered for an honorary membership since he is here nearlyevery time we gather and open Lodge. Brother O’Conner has a son who is also a student at UCDavis and I have asked if his son will be thinking of Lodge membership. The other guest wehad for dinner is a prospect that has shown and interest in Masonry, Robert Cutts. Robertworks at UC Davis at the Segundo Dining commons. If you go to dinner there during the weekRobert will cook up a great dish for you at the Mongolian Wok. Both of our first time visitorslet me know that they had a really good time having dinner and felt very welcome as many ofthe brothers spent a lot of time with them. The dinner on Thursday was bacon wrappedchicken, roasted fingerling potato, Normandy vegetable AlFredo, rolls, and salad. It seemedeveryone did like the dinner as I had requests later for how I did the different dishes. Nextmonth before the stated meeting Woodland Lodge #81 will present to last year’s Master, theWorshipful Paul Haynes, the Hiram Award. The Hiram is the highest award that be given inFreemasonry. Worshipful Paul has given many years of dedicated service and assistance toWoodland Lodge- a very worthy recipient of this prestigious award. Paul has indicated that hewill be preparing a very special barbecue dinner that night that no one should miss. Everyoneshould come to the dinner so they can show their support for Paul when he is presented theaward before we have our Lodge meeting.

Next month the School of Instruction will resume after being dark for a couple of months.Worshipful Brian Walker, our Inspector of the 418th District will convene the school to begin anew year of learning how to do the work the way the Grand Lodge wants us to do it. I believethat we will be meeting in Scepter Lodge, but I have no official schedule at this time.

The Woodland Chapter #46 of Royal Arch will resume next month after being dark for twomonths. I have indicated that I will continue as the Chaplain for the Chapter for the time being.
