The Tulsa Tracker Newsletter of the Tulsa Chapter, American Guild of Organists September, 2019 From the Dean… Dear Chapter Members and Friends, On behalf of the officers and members of the Tulsa AGO, I would like to offer my deepest condolences to Karen Rich on the death of her husband Tom. Karen is a stalwart member of our chapter and she served the AGO in a national capacity for many years. She was an advisor to Saint John’s Episcopal Church when they undertook their organist search that resulted in my arrival in June 2015. She has been a source of support to me and so many of us. Karen, we will be with you in the weeks, months, and years to come, though we could likely never be as much a blessing to you as you have been to us. In the meantime, the work of our chapter begins anew as we start another season! My partner Michael and I are pleased to be hosting the fall opening party at our home on Friday, September 6. I hope to see many of you then and there. I look forward to another year of growth for our chapter! Joseph Joseph Arndt, Dean From the Sub-Dean… Dear friends and colleagues, I trust the guild means as much to you as it does to me – making friends, learning from colleagues, enjoying wonderful performances, and more. It feels like more than a professional association; it feels almost like family. It has become a necessary and important part of my life, professionally, socially and even spiritually, for our monthly gatherings and programs nurture the spirit in many different ways. That is why I always look forward to each and every meeting. Please join us on Friday, September 6th, at 6:30 for our first dinner/meeting of the 2019-2020 year, at the home of Joseph Arndt and Michael Turner. The food is always good (thank you, Fred Elder, for coordinating reservations and the caterer), but the fellowship is the real reason for making time in our busy schedules to attend. I expect that this month we'll have a lot to talk about! I truly hope to see all of you there. It is truly a privilege to know you and to see the impact of your work in the greater Tulsa community and beyond. Terry Terry Cast, Sub-Dean

Come for the fun, food, and friends!

From Chapter Member Broc Hite: I'm leading a class on Sacred Music in my church during our established Wednesday family night that features a variety of classes that you would expect for a Methodist church. My text is Te Deum - The Church and Music, by Paul Westermeyer, and I'm going to supplement recordings from the Norton Anthology and separate recordings with the help of the music director at my church. Part one of the class, 5 weeks long, will cover roughly half of the book, from the Psalms through the Middle Ages. Part two would be next spring. My goal is to try to better connect the music program in general to the church, gain new choir members, even maybe even win new fans for whenever I give a recital. The short class is just a vehicle towards achieving that goal. Do any of you have experience with holding a class like this? Do you have any suggestions as to what I can do to best achieve my goal? Thanks! Broc Hite [email protected]
