The Turtle Times Parents/Carers, All students have been preparing for our Sports Day which is the last day of this term for students, Thursday 20 th June. We would love to see as many parents as possible enjoy watching your children participate in our Sports Day so come along sporting the colour of your child/ren’s team and be a part of the fun on the day. With only a few short weeks of school left for this term it is important I advise you that I will be on Long Service Leave from 1 st July – 25 th August which is the holiday period and the first 5 weeks of Term 3. In my absence our Assistant Principal Shona Henderson will be acting in the Principal role and our Senior Teacher upper primary Danielle Banicek, will be acting as Assistant Principal for that period. We will be employing a teacher to work with Philippa Ludwig in the year 5/6 class for that period also and at this stage the teacher is yet to be finalised. It is with great regret that I have accepted the resignation from Rebecca Fisher one of our 2/3 teachers. Rebecca’s mum has had a stroke and she will be down south caring for her on and off over the coming months and she felt it best for the school and the students if she terminated her contract with us rather than cause greater disruption. We have Jaylene Jan starting on Tuesday and she will be with us until the end of the year. Jaylene is returning from ma- ternity leave. We have been lucky as she is an experienced NT teacher. Please welcome Jaylene when you have the opportunity as she will be co-teaching with Ms Gray. As we are a continually growing school we will need to start another 2/3 class for the beginning of Term 3. We are currently looking at a suitable teacher for that class and all teachers with students of year 2 or 3 have been asked to suggest 2 - 3 students from each of their classes whom they believe would benefit and cope well in a new 2/3 class next semester. The newer families who I interviewed at enrolment were informed that this may be the case so some of those students will be moved and I will be calling families over the next week to discuss the move if your child has been suggested. This is something that we don’t do lightly but we have such full classes across the 1/2, 2/3 and 3/4 areas of our school that it is vital we do this and doing it at the beginning of a semester is the best option. This will set us up for any further growth we may have for the remainder of the year. Another reminder to current families of Rosebery Primary School, if you have a preschool aged student due to begin preschool next year you will need to contact RECEPTION and put down their names as we are reducing to only 40 places in 2 preschool groups next year. We want to be able to cater for our current families first and we already have one full class so make sure you call in soon. If we fill up I will be recommending at enrolment Woodroffe Preschool. Teachers have been writing reports over the last few weeks and currently we are checking over them in readiness for printing and sending home on Wednesday 19 th June. Can you please be aware of this and ask your children for their reports as they are very important documents for you as a parent to see how your child is going in class. If you have any concerns please speak to your child’s classroom teacher in the first instance. As Sports Day is our last day of school this term due to our Professional Development Day on the Friday you will need to ensure you have other arrangements for your children. Remember our Out of School Hours Care is offering first in best dressed care for the day on a user pays basis. Please see Janet at After School Care if you wish to enroll your child/ren for that day. Also remember all schools start back in Term 3 on Tuesday 23 rd . Another reminder that Emma Crooks from CatholicCare NT is offering, free of charge another brilliant opportunity for parents to undertake the Triple P Parenting Program. We are offering day sessions this time over 4 weeks each Thursday starting on 15 th August from 8.30 – 10.30 here at school in the General Purpose room next to the canteen. Please contact [email protected] to put your name down. Further information will be forthcoming. Enjoy the long weekend.
