From our Pastor… This weekend is Commitment Weekend and our Parish Festival! 2017 marks our 140th year of parish life! We know how the parishioners back then embraced stewardship. We can look around at our beautiful church and see the fruits of their stewardship. I hope that you have all had the chance to pray and discern how you are going to open the “Four Doors to Stewardship.” Where and how is God leading you to get involved? Are you willing to open the door, and more importantly, step into each door of Stewardship? Last year, we had over 450 stewardship cards returned. My prayer is that we can double that number, and, quite honestly, if every parishioner turned theirs in, that would triple and almost quadruple our commitments. Every Pastor’s hope is that all of his parishioners will embrace Stewardship as a way of life! We need your commitment to stewardship – give it a try – God will not be outdone in generosity for your openness to Him! This weekend is also our Parish Festival! This Festival is a way to help support the parish, but more importantly to celebrate our parish, to share food, to have fun and to come together in the spirit of volunteerism! The Stewardship Committee and Parish Festival Committee have been working hard to help make this a success. Read more about our stewardship initiative on our website: stboncc.com/stewardship-growing-gods-grace/

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP

Sometimes when I ask one of my children about who they were with or about a classmate at school they answer me with, "You don't know them." Apparently, since I do not know him or her personally, I do not need to know the person's name. I may not know this person but I do know that he or she exists in the everyday life of one of my children. If my children don't share with me anything about their friend or classmate, I can only assume he or she has no great impact on my sons' or daughter's daily lives. Of course, sometimes the response I get is simply my teen being a typical teen. Has Jesus had a significant impact on your life? Do you know Jesus personally? If someone asked you about him what would you say? My children respond the way they do to me because they are still young and immature. However, some adults are immature as well: immature in faith. We shy away from any discussion of God in our lives and we rarely share our faith. Most days we will not be asked the question, "Who is Jesus?" But we will be in situa-tions where we are being called to share a little bit about our-selves. If Jesus has truly changed our lives and we never seem to want to share something about him with others, they may as well assume that he has had no real impact on us. On the other hand, if we are mature disciples in Jesus Christ, I suspect that others can't help but know about the great friend we have in him. ~Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS © Liturgical Publications

THINGS EVERY CATHOLIC PARENT SHOULD MAKE SURE THEIR CHILDREN KNOW

BEFORE LEAVING HOME:

*The Church is your home. Make sure your children know that they may be leaving your family home, but they never have to leave their church home. When bouts of homesickness threaten (as they probably will), a nearby Catholic Church and the Mass can be a touchstone of safety in what can feel like an impersonal world. *Pray daily. As impor tant as fr iends are, fr iendship with God is even more important. Our children need to understand that friendship with God requires time and energy. While it is true that God is always there waiting for us, and that God does, in fact, take the initiative to contact us, we need to spend time every day in prayer in order to know and understand God’s will for our lives.
