SPARTA SUMMER ARTS WORKSHOP 2017 We are proud to announce the Twenty-Ninth Annual Summer Arts Workshop. This five-week program exploring art, drama, and music has been repeatedly recognized for its excellence in the arts enrichment of our youth throughout the area. The workshop is open to all students from Sparta as well as neighboring communities.

We are extremely proud of the Summer Arts staff. It is comprised of a dozen experienced professionals offering courses in art, instrumental music, vocal music, theater, and performing groups. The educational environment is both challenging and nurturing with concern for each student and their role in the overall workshop experience. We also have invited guest artists to visit and share their expertise with the students with an overwhelmingly positive response. The Summer Arts Workshop meets Monday through Thursday each of the five weeks (except for Week Two which meets Wednesday through Friday). The first week will begin on June 26th and the final week will end on July 27tH. Classes start at 9:00 AM and finish at 12:00 PM. You can choose the full five week program (the best deal) or any of a number of abridged scheduling options listed on the registration form.

On the evening of Wednesday, July 26th, the students and staff will present a Final Arts Evening. This evening will feature performing ensembles, art exhibits, and our musical production, “MATILDA”. There are two types of leadership offerings for high school students interested in participating in the workshop. The “Student-In-Training” (SIT) is an open partial scholarship for students who are interested in being classroom assistants; an application is available on the Summer Arts Website. The “Teaching Assistant” (T.A.) position is a competitive employment opportunity for students who might be interested in pursuing a career in art/music education.

The classes to be offered are described on the following pages. If you have a question as to the placement of your child in an instrumental class (i.e. – beginning, intermediate or advanced) we recommend speaking with his/her music teacher to assist you with the selection. In addition, you may contact either of us with specific questions regarding placement and scheduling. If, during the course of the workshop, your child finds a class to be inappropriate for any reason, we accommodate schedule changes through the third week. Please fill out the enclosed registration form with remittance and mail or drop it off at Sparta Middle School. We are all looking forward to working with your child during the summer. Sincerely, Christian Arnold Concentration in Instrumental Music Karen Scott Concentration in Art, Vocal and Drama S.A.W. Directors:
