Dear Friends,

This week finds us at the end of the summer and most people gearing up for another school year and all the activities that accompany this time of year. Best Wishes and Blessings to our college students who have probably already begun and to all of our young people returning to grade or high school. We offer a special wish and prayer for all those beginning at a new school or course of study.

Much work has been done to prepare our school for all of our returning students to both PREP and School in our Education Center. We welcome our new teachers and especially our new Vice Principal- Sr. Diane Licordare, IHM.

We are also still looking for catechists, aides and support staff for our Parish Religious Education program. What a great way for you to share your faith and help our youngsters grow in their faith.

This weekend, I would like to draw your attention to our ongoing Rite of Christian Initiation process. The RCIA is the pastoral process for initiating new members in to the Church. The Church invites new seekers to the knowledge of the truths of the faith, to the celebration of the seven sacraments, to commitment to the moral life and to the practice of an active prayer life.

Catholicism in the United States continues to attract thousands of new members each year as the Holy Spirit works through the Church to awaken a thirst for the Lord. We are the Church and the Holy Spirit needs you to invite others to join us as disciples of the Lord. Do you know anyone who is thinking of becoming Catholic? Do you know someone who was baptized Catholic but never finished their full initiation into the Church? Invite them to find out about our RCIA program.

Below I will quote what one of our parishioners who recently completed the RCIA process: “I found the RCIA

presentations to be interesting and thought provoking. The dedication of our parish priests, Kathy Thomas, our DRE, and

the many volunteers made a lasting impression. There is obviously a great deal of time invested in the preparation of

each class. With the gentle guidance and genuine caring of the St. Joseph ministry, I was encouraged every step of the

way. This journey was important for all kinds of reasons, something I needed to do to be at peace in my life, and

something I needed to do to be ...complete.

In our bulletin this weekend we also have our 2014 Adult Faith Formation opportunities. Learn, Live, Love

your Faith! We are never too old to stop learning especially about our faith. As the school bells begin to ring again make a personal commitment to grow in your knowledge and love of the Lord. Our young people are not the only ones who should be studying and learning. We all need to keep up on the world around us and especially on our faith. Please take advantage of all the educational and faith-building programs and offerings we have here at Saint Joseph’s.

Saint Joseph, Pray for Us!

In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus brings up the

topic of the cross to his followers. They would

not realize the cross was part of God’s plan and

was to be their legacy until after the

Resurrection. Today’s followers of Christ

recognize they are stewards of his entire legacy,

including his cross; that through their mutual

sacrifices God’s glory is revealed. They don’t

live their life in Christ only when it is

convenient for them. They make a decision to

take up their cross and carry it, no matter what

the cost. What crosses do we bear in order to

reveal God’s glory?
