INNOVATION TO FACE GLOBAL CHALLENGESEURO-MEDITERRANEAN TOURISM AND WATER CAMPUS

VisionConvert the Girona-Balearic Islands hub, through the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Cross-Border Research and Higher Education Pole, into an international benchmark for innovation in sustainable tourism and water management, and to create out of it a connection node for important scientific collaborations in existing areas of excellence.

MissionCreate two real innovation ecosystems, represented by all sectors: academic, public and business. Carry out activities within the key parts of these ecosystems with most regional impact, to face global and local challenges, and promote excellence in training, research and development, and knowledge transfer. Become a key factor in efforts to increase competitiveness and create new opportunities in any of the social and economic sectors of ecosystems.

4 lines of specialisation:> Water> Sustainable tourism> Physics, computing and applications> Food and health

Strategic objectives e-Sustainability Respond to the challenges in tourism and water management development and sustainability.e-InternationalisationStrengthen the international campus.e-EmployabilityIncrease the opportunities to create employment.e-CampusFacilitate network-based collaboration among stakeholders.

Strategic Plan The new emphasis of the Plan, thanks to the support of the “La Caixa” Foundation, represents a strategic commitment to development, focused on stimulating sustainable economic growth based on improved training, care for the environment and the promotion of innovative capabilities.

CROSS-BORDER ACTIONS

Objective: Strengthen cooperation between the participating universities and improve their regional impact.

Our immediate challenges:> Legally incorporate the PRES-PM EGTC.> MIRO Project: Interdisciplinary master’s programme through the Grouping of Economic and University Organisations in the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Region.> Promote synergies in priority areas, especially in research: inland waters and marine sciences, tourism sustainability, renewable energies, Catalan language and culture, health sciences and social sciences.> Promote the mobility of teachers and students.
