Shopping
The Manchester Arndale is a shopping experience in the heart of the city centre. It is the UK’s largest inner-city shopping centre with over 200 retailers, including all high street brands, under one roof. Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and House of Fraser all have large department stores in the city centre.
Arts and CultureManchester’s museums and galleries exhibit anything from classic art to the history of football. The Palace and Opera House theatres show touring West End performances or you can find a wide range of plays at the circular theatre in the Royal Exchange.
Further afield Five miles outside of the city centre, you will find another shopping experience at the Trafford Centre, where you will find the usual high street fashion and Barton Square for homewares. Sporting fans may want to visit either of Manchester’s two football clubs or the National Centres for Cycling and Squash.
Manchester: a great university city
While you are here, you may want to take the opportunity to see some of Manchester, the UK’s most popular student city.
From the Manchester campus, it is a 10-15 minute walk into the city centre or you can catch almost any bus outside the All Saints Park (see the campus map on pages 26-27) that will take you into Piccadilly Bus Station. From there you can explore all the city has to offer.
Bars and RestaurantsIf you make your way into the city centre, you will have your choice of bars and restaurants. Try the Northern Quarter, Spinningfields or Deansgate, where there are food and drink options to suit all tastes and budgets. Manchester is also home to the second largest Chinatown in the UK.
To find out more about Manchester and what you can do while you are here, go to www.visitmanchester.com.
