Students interested in further information should write directly to the Chairman of the Music Department. A number of teaching assistantships, special fellowships, awards and work study opportunities are available. Admission is highly competitive in the graduate school and prospective students are advised to submit applications by the middle of January.

Closely associated with the Music Department is the Center for Music Experiment initiated some six years ago. This music research unit, substantially funded by the University, the Ford and Rockefeller foundations, the National Endowment for the Arts and numerous smaller foundations provides a working facility and environment which has attracted to it composers, performers, artists, dancers, music technologists and scientists, scholars and critics from all over the world. In conjunction with the Music Department it is currently carrying out plans to build and develop one of the world's most sophisticated computer systems designed for musical purposes. Fellowships and short term residencies are available at the Center.
