2016 Year-End Report and 2017 May Revision | $500,000 for the Bay Terraces Senior

Center

Mayor Faulconer, Councilmember Cate, and I announced good budget news at a press

conference about the 2016 Year-End Report and 2017 May Revision at the Bay Terraces

Community Park. Along with other budget announcements, a major revision included $500,000

for the design of the Bay Terraces Senior Center. Our demands were heard, thanks to the

advocacy of the Bay Terraces Filipino-American Senior Association and community residents

during the Budget Hearings. The seniors have been waiting patiently, and I have been working

hard to get the senior center built. We will continue to advocate until we see this project

through.

Other Highlights in the Proposed Budget | $100,000 for the New Skyline Hills Library

Along with other revisions in the proposed budget, the highlights include:

$4 million for police recruitment and retention

$700,000 for dispatch and recruitment

$100,000 for operational support at the new Skyline Hills Library, set to open in the fall

$105,000 to keep the North Clairemont Senior Center open

The updated budget also includes greater investment for police and dispatch recruitment and

retention, which is critical to improve overall public safety. Every community deserves adequate

fire-rescue and community-oriented police services, and expanding these essential resources will

continue to be a priority, especially in the neighborhoods that have been historically underserved.

I know we have a lot more work to do to ensure that our neighborhoods are safe and livable, but

I feel encouraged knowing that this proposed budget is a step in the right direction.

Community Advocacy Works: Councilmember Cole, Mayor Faulconer and Councilmember Cate joined

members of the Bay Terraces Fil-Am Senior Association to celebrate the funding for the Senior Center.
