The Objective of this research are: to describe the use of “ Two Stay Two
Stray” Strategy in teaching speaking and to analyze the students speaking ability
at SMPN 2 Kurau in academic year 2018/2019.
The research design of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The
subject of this research is eight grade students of SMPN 2 Kurau. The object of
this research is the “Two Stay Two Stray Strategy” that teacher used in the class.
To collect the data, the researcher uses some techniques they are
observation, interview and documentary. Data processing in this research is data
reduction, data display, and conclusion. So that all data can be used to answer the
problem statement systematically.
The result of this research states that the teacher using “Two Stay Two
Stray” strategy appropriate with the theory even some of the step can not
conducted because of some reasons. However, the teacher can adapt the strategy
to class conditions. The students in eigth grade at SMPN 2 Kurau are interested to
learn English and active to speak in English, even sometimes they still use mix
language. They are confident, eventhough, their pronunciation, grammar,
vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency still not really good.

Kata Kunci: Penerapan, Strategi Two Stay Two Stray, Pembelajaran Speaking
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan
strategi “Two Stay Two Stray” dalam mengajar berbicara dan untuk menganalisis
kemampuan berbicara siswa di SMPN 2 Kurau pada tahun akademik 2018/2019.
Desain penelitian dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif
kualitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas delapan SMPN 2 Kurau. Objek
dari penelitian ini adalah strategi “ Two Stay Two Stray” yang digunakan guru di
kelas.
Untuk mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan beberapa teknik yaitu
observasi, wawancara dan dokumenter. Pengolahan data dalam penelitian ini
adalah reduksi data, tampilan data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Sehingga semua
data dapat digunakan untuk menjawab pernyataan masalah secara sistematis.
Hasil penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa guru menerapkan strategi "Two
Stay Two Stray" sesuai dengan teori walaupun beberapa langkah tidak dapat
dilakukan karena beberapa alasan. Tapi, guru dapat menyesuaikan strategi dengan
kondisi kelas. Para siswa kelas 8 SMPN 2 Kurau tertarik untuk belajar bahasa
Inggris dan aktif berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris, bahkan terkadang mereka masih
menggunakan bahasa campuran. Mereka percaya diri, meskipun, pelafalan, tata
bahasa, kosa kata, pemahaman, dan kelancaran mereka masih tidak terlalu baik.

Two Stay Two Stray Strategy in Teaching Speaking at SMPN 2
