What Is Certification?

• Certification– A designation earned by a person to assure qualification

to perform a job or task– Refers to the confirmation of certain characteristics of an

object, person, or organization. This confirmation is often, but not always, provided by some form of external review, education, or assessment

• There are two general types of professional certification: some are valid for a lifetime, once the exam is passed. Others have to be recertified again after a certain period of time.

• NISH has negotiated an educational partnership with ALM (Association for Linen Management) whereby we conduct a NISH sponsored course for NPAs needing this certification (they can also get it on their own). It is listed in the NISH Training Catalog.

• The course is: CLLM (Certified Linen and Laundry Manager). It requires continued educational credits of 45 units per 3 (three) years to be sent to ALM for validation.

PGMS Certified Grounds Manager (CGM)• A candidate must meet one of the three criteria below:

– A Bachelor of Science in a recognized green industry field, including management and four years of experience in the field of grounds maintenance, of which two years are supervisory.

– A two year degree from a recognized college or junior college, plus six years of experience in the grounds maintenance field with a minimum of three years of supervisory experience.

– Eight years in the grounds maintenance field, with a minimum of four years of supervisory experience.
