SCHOOL WIDE EXPECTATIONS Our SJV School-wide Expectations:

Be Respectful Be Responsible Be Safe Be a Learner

Value: Justice

Practising justice is being fair. It is solving problems so everyone wins. You don’t prejudge. You see people as individuals. You

don’t accept it when someone acts like a bully, cheats or lies. Being a champion for justice takes courage. Sometimes when you

stand for justice, you stand alone.

This month our policy of the month is the SJV Code of Conduct. This has been developed by our School Board over the year. Many members of our community would be familiar with the language used in this policy with their experience with high schools and children’s sporting clubs. We have attempted to include areas that describe our expectations as a community, including social media. This policy will describe the expectations of our current members and future members of our community. At enrolment, parents/guardians have accepted our school policies and procedures. I invite any feedback you may have about this new policy to be emailed to me. I am grateful that our families uphold such strong

values and respect all members of our community.

Catholic Education Week and SJV Feast Day

On Monday this week we launched Catholic Education Week with a Pastoral Care morning led by our Catholic Identity Student Leaders. Wearing pyjamas for the day was a treat for many! After our Catholic Education Prayer Celebration, buddies joined together to participate in a

range of fun activities as a way of fostering relationships across our student body.

A prayer for Catholic Education Week

May you be blessed with constant hope, with confidence in what awaits you and a strong trust that all shall be well. May you be blessed with bounteous love, with many surprises and with an ever-deepening love of the Holy One. May you be blessed with graced surrender to let go of what keeps you from growing, to learn from the obstacles that arise and to live each day with a spirit of openness. May you be blessed with courage, to stand strong in adversity, to wait with patience for what you need and to look forward to the new growth awaiting in you. May you be

blessed especially in this Catholic Education Week. Amen.

(Joyce Rupp- Prayer Seeds)

On Friday 2 August we will be celebrating St John Vianney Feast Day with a Mass at 9am followed by open classrooms. At 10:30am morning tea will be provided for parents in the Nano Nagle Hall. We

hope you will be able to join us for this special morning.

Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

On Thursday 15 August our school community will join the parish at 9:30am to celebrate Mass for the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This Feast Day is recognition by the Catholic Church of Mary as a faithful follower of God. Parents

are more than welcome to join us.

May peace be with you.

On Thursday 15 August, only 2 weeks to go, we begin our Book Week celebrations! We are looking forward to the

Big Dreams performance coming to SJV. Here is a short overview:

BiG DREAMS is an educational incursion that features a selection of the Children’s Book Council 2019 shortlisted books. Providing a gateway into accessing the best in Australian Children’s literature, BiG DREAMS teaches students not to be discouraged by negative messages in order to follow their heart’s desire. Filled with humour, suspense and featuring student interaction throughout, this educational in-school musical

adventure encourages our students to pursue their ambitions. If you’re going to dream, let them be Big Dreams!

Book Club is expected to arrive Friday of this week or early next week, thank you for your support.

Book Parade Monday 19 August 9am - dress-up as a book character or on the Book Week theme. Costumes can be simple or elaborate as you

like, e.g. Be Tiny Timmy and come dressed in soccer gear or maybe your secret reading power takes you to outer space or back in time.

For adults during Book Week, the Lord Mayor’s Writers in Residence series presents - What should my child read? With Frances Whiting,

Rebecca Sparrow and Megan Daley Tuesday 20 August 6-7pm at the Wynnum Library - please see the attached flyer.

SJV Scholastic Book Fair begins Tuesday 27th August - Friday 20 August

Congratulations to Best Friends of the library this week Prep S and 6V.

Happy Reading!

Semester 2 P.E.

As the Inter-School Sporting Program is drawing to a close for the year, this provides a wonderful opportunity this semester to showcase student engagement in physical activity during P.E. classes. Last week, Oztag Queensland provided a Development Officer to run Oztag activities during classes. The photos speak for themselves! I would encourage parents who have not yet selected an outside school sport for Term 4 for their

children to get involved in the Oztag opportunity in the local area. No training is involved and it is great fun.

Water Safety and Swimming Program

Arrangements are being finalised for our Annual Water Safety and Swimming Program, scheduled for the first four weeks of Term 4. Please ‘watch

this space’ for updates.

SJV Singlets

A friendly reminder that the SJV singlets distributed to competitors for all our Inter-School carnivals are on a ‘borrow only’ basis. Please ensure these are laundered and returned to the school via the class pouches or directly to the office as soon as possible after the event. Thank you for

your attention to this.

SJV Showcase

We continue to showcase our students’ sporting achievements in outside school sporting activities. Information and photos for all sporting events

(including local sporting events) can be sent to [email protected]

Please be mindful that when sending in photos they must contain only SJV students due to privacy and confidentiality legislation.

Thank you for your continued support of ‘all things sport’ at SJV.

Tickets and Dates

Mrs McConnon has already emailed out information on how to purchase tickets. Here is a recap:

On Monday 5 August at 9am, tickets for our Musical Pirates of the Curry Bean will go on sale. The cost per ticket will be $20 plus a .50 cent

administration fee. To allow every family the opportunity to attend this special event we have had to limit seats to two per family over the two

nights.

For example:

Option A: If attending Thursday night then purchase 2 tickets for this night then drop/pick up children on the Friday night

Option B: If attending Friday night then purchase 2 tickets for this night then drop/pick up children on the Thursday night

Option C: Attend Thursday night 1 ticket and attend Friday night 1 ticket

We will close ticket sales on Friday 16 August. Once we have checked booking

details we will be able to notify families if there are any additional seats

available. We will be using an online system called Trybooking for purchasing

tickets. We are hoping this will be a smooth process as Iona use this system

for their IPAC events. We strongly encourage members of each family to

communicate and decide who will book their two tickets just to ensure we don’t

have any double-ups, if this does happen the additional tickets will be

cancelled and refunds will be organised. Thank you in advance for your

understanding and cooperation with this process. This is the link to book your two tickets:

https://www.trybooking.com/BDPMK

We can’t wait to see you there for this exciting event!!
