“Follow Me” Begins on

Family Fun Day Out-
reach Event at Plum
Creek Park, Saturday,
Sept 24th from 12:30 -
3:00 pm.
While it is not January 1, 2017 YET, in many ways it feels like we are about to
begin a new year. Our lives seem to restart every fall, school starts up, weather
changes (thankfully) and of course it is football/volleyball season.
As we enter this new season I want to challenge you to take a step forward,
don’t let life just happen, be proactive and move forward on your spirit journey.
Don’t allow the distractions of this world to distract you from walking closer
with Jesus as we enter this fall.
One of the best ways to do this is through relationships. We need others to en-
courage, teach, love and have fun with. This is why we have a small group minis-
try, to bond together in community in our journey with Jesus Christ.
On Sept. 18th we will be starting a nine-week church wide series “Follow Me”
John will be preaching on and our small groups will be discussing what it takes
To Follow Jesus. I want to invite everyone to take ome step forward.
For some this means join a small group, for others it may mean be more active
and involved in the group you are in. For others it might mean speaking up and
sharing more in your group. For some its time you to take more responsibility
and help lead or even start your own group. The first step in this journey is to
listen to what Jesus would have you to do and then to simply take that step and
do it.

Wednesday Night @ the Refuge
Youth group has kicked off with a bang this Fall! We’ve had a huge influx of new faces and a lot of excite-
ment!
Our focus this school year is getting back to the basics. We’re diving head first into the Bible to study the
Gospel of John. Something that has become very evident to me is that students are afraid of God’s Word.
That breaks my heart because the Bible is the life source for any Christian, so we’re seeking to explore the
depths of God’s Word together with students this Fall. Our hope is that they will engage with God’s Word in
a deeper way that they ever have and through that believe in Jesus and experience the life He offers. The two
key words we’re going to focus on is “Believe” & “Live”. John said that he wrote his gospel, “so that you
may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his
name” (John 20:31). That’s our prayer for students this year, that they might believe in Jesus and have life.

It’s always a good sign when a
student seek US out. There
was a student, “Mark,” who
we had lost touch with. We
met him 3 years ago, when he
first arrived in USA. While
he was the designator
“translator” for his group of
friends, his English was still
not very good. But there was
one event we invited him to
that he LOVED - the farm
visit we have taken every year
(it may have been mostly
food-related.) We hadn’t
seen him in a year or more, so
I (Andy) reached out to him
about the upcoming farm visit,
but didn’t know if he would
come. We saw his Mustang
pull up and Lauren said , “that
looks like Mark’s car… that
IS MARK!” It was great to
reconnect and catch up. We
meant up shortly after and had
a great conversation about our
families and our faith. He’s
had some really good
questions about what I believe
such as who Jesus I to me and
why I follow Him.
Summer is always hit and
miss with students. Many
either travel home or around
the USA, so we don’t always
hear from them as much. Not
so with Mark. This summer
he texted me several times
asking when we could hang
out again and wanting to
introduce me to his younger
brother. Please pray that his
question would lead him to
the truth of who Jesus is.
Pray God would soften his
heart to the gospel, bring
him to faith in Jesus, and
use him to reach others in
his family and friends with
the gospel.

Loving Others
Though there is great variety in how
God has made us, we are united in our
faith relationship with Him as Christians.
We also share some core biblical values as his followers in the Parkview
family. These values help us promote and pursue unity with each other as
we follow Jesus together.
One of our core values is “loving others.” We are determined to love
people as Christ commands. This love should be genuine and practical. In
John 13:35 Jesus says “By this all men will know that you are My disciples,
of you have love for one another.” He repeats in John 15:12, “This is My
commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.” Love,
real love impacts what we do and how we do it. Love for people should be
a defining mark of who are as a church family. Love is the goal of our spiri-
tual growth and the bond that unites us as we serve God together. (1Tim
1:5)
When facing a challenge or decision we must ask, “What is the loving
way to engage this situation?” Love does not always give in, but it seeks
what is ultimately best. Love allows us to accept each other as we are and
to encourage each other to move forward in holiness and spiritual growth.
Such love goes a long way to building our unity as we build each other in
Christ.
Discovering Parkview If you are fairly new to Parkview and want to
know more about why we do what we do, want to
know what we believe and how we do things
around here then we want to invite you to be a part
of this class. This is a great way for us to get to
know each other. This class is also one of the steps
for membership. If you have been a part of Park-
view for a long time I invite you to RE-DISCOVER Parkview by joining us
in this class.
Discovering Parkview begins on Sept. 11th during
Second Worship Service

Greetings from Next Generation Kids! If you are reading this, that means you haven’t been
completely consumed with the to-dos that come with
the arrival of a new school year! It’s hard to believe
that the summer has passed and we are already in the
full swing of things, but “for everything there is a sea-
son, a time for every activity under heaven” (Ecc
3:1). We will continue to meet during second service in
the activity room as we progress through the entire Bi-
ble via The Gospel Project. We have been looking
lately at the time of the Kings in Israel and how, despite
all his wisdom, Solomon fell into idolatry which led to
the division of the Kingdom of Israel. There are plenty
of takeaways from the books of 1 and 2 Kings, but none
more important than the fact that we have a King who is
righteous in all His ways and serves His people per-
fectly!
Promotion Sunday! August 21st was Promotion Sunday and Next Genera-
tion Kids is happy to welcome several new Kinder-
garteners into the group! The following are the new
kids we recognized on Promotion Sunday:

Please join us in praying for these, and all of our stu-
dents as they begin the new school year!
We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.

At some point, God
seems to open a door
or put an inkling of
desire on your heart
to reach out just a
little further. Begin
by looking at your
natural gifts, those
things you do as comfortably as breathing. Jesus
loves touching the world through our natural
gifts and God-given talents. If you know you
have a special way with elderly folks, you can
volunteer to visit the nursing home, visit with
one elderly person. They will appreciate the
time you spend with them. Don’t be afraid to
share Jesus. They are waiting to hear about Him.

Discerning the Voice of God
By Priscilla Shirer
“How to Recognize When God Speaks” Is that you, God? No blessing surpasses a relation-
ship with God in which you know when He is spe-
cifically calling to you. The more intimate your rela-
tionship with Him, the clearer God’s voice be-
comes. Discerning the Voice of God will provide you
with practical help in knowing what you hear is from
God. Through this study we will ask God to teach us
to sort through the noises of this world so we can
hear and discern His powerful, wonderful, pure, pre-
cious voice. Join us for this 7-session women’s Bible
study. The introduction sessions will begin on
Thursday evening, September 15th (lead by Geri
Govier) and Monday evening the 19th (lead by Jane
Reynolds) at 7:00 pm at the church. The study guide
is $13 payable at the first meeting. Contact Jane Rey-
nolds (308-324-2023 04 325-1819) with questions or to
register.

Kelli Bender
New Kids Team Leader At Parkview we love kids, and really have a desire
to share the gospel with them and see them come to
faith in Jesus. That’s why we’re really excited to have
Kelli Bender become our new Kid’s Team Leader.
Kelli has a huge passion to reach the kids in our com-
munity with gospel. She’s served faithfully in our
kid’s ministry for several years, and just this past
year, along with Christy Franz and several others,
started the Good News Clubs in our schools, which
has been a hugely impactful ministry. We’re encour-
aged by what God is doing in Parkview and our
community in opening avenues to take the gospel to
kids.
Our hope and prayer in Kelli stepping into the
team leader role is not that she does the majority of
the kid’s ministry in the church, but our hope is that
the kid’s team becomes more unified around the mis-
sion of reaching kids for Jesus and that kid’s ministry
becomes even more aligned in their strategy. We’re
thankful and blessed to have such a great group serv-
ing in our kid’s ministry, and we’re excited to see
where God takes this ministry in the near future!
“Praise The King”
There’s a reason why the curse of sin is broken
There’s a reason why the darkness runs from light
There’s a reason why we stand here now forgiven
Jesus is alive
There’s a reason why we are not overtaken
There’s a reason why we sing on through the night
There’s a reason why our hope remains eternal
Jesus is alive
Praise the King, He is risen
Praise the King, He’s alive
Praise the King, death’s defeated
Hallelujah, He’s alive
Hallelujah, He’s alive
There’s a reason why our hearts can be courageous
There’s a reason why the dead are made alive
There’s a reason why we share His resurrection
Jesus is alive He’s alive
The grave could not ignore it,
all of heaven’s roaring
Hell where is your victory,
death where is your sting
The world cannot ignore it,
when all the saints are roaring
Hell where is your victory,
death where is your sting
Sometimes it’s good to just ponder the words
to the songs we sing...and remember why we sing.
Praise the King!
See you Sunday,
Scott Sarnes

‘The View’ Pastor’s log September 2016
Our mission is… to help people discover a deepening relationship
with Jesus, His family & His mission.
Something I feel deep responsibility for is continually assessing how we are doing and doing my part to help
us better follow Jesus’ lead. It is a mission that really only works when we embrace it together.
For this month I want to ask you to consider what it really means & how it relates to you. Or to put it an-
other way, what is your next step to fully embrace this with us? It is a never-ending mission that requires
ongoing dependence on Jesus. The first part involves embracing an ongoing, ever deepening walk with Je-
sus. Though we all start as spiritual infants, the hope is to one day grow to take responsibility for our own
walk and to keep on walking. Salvation is more than a moment and a real relationship with Jesus should
make a real impact on your life. Jesus called it eternal life meaning. This involves a life of eternally following
Jesus more deeply! To say you believe in Jesus and not to follow him is to seriously misunderstand at best
and to deceive yourself at worst.
Salvation is more than a moment and a real relationship with Jesus
should make a real impact on your life
We exist as Jesus’ church to help each other do this. This means at least two things for each of us. FIRST:
Each of us should be moving forward in our own walk with Jesus. SECOND: Each of us should be involved
helping someone else discover a deepening walk with Jesus.
What is your next step? Your pastoral staff and ministry leaders serve primarily to help you recognize and
embrace your next step in deepening your relationship with Jesus, His family & His mission. If you’re not
sure how just ask. This is me asking you if you would like my help. I’m here for you for Jesus.
Imagine the impact on our part of Nebraska if each of us embraced this more fully this ministry year! I’m
still dreaming of it. I’m still working for it. Will you join me?
Join us every weekend in September & October as we explore this together in the next series: Follow Me.
