Innsbrook Club News THIS WEEK’S BLUEBIRD REPORTOur Innsbrook bluebirds now have 54 active nests containing 68 eggs and 141 chicks. When the chicks first hatch, their eyes are closed and they have no feathers (it takes 5-6 days to get feathers). They can barely move, except to lift their heads and open their mouths. Because they have no feathers, they cannot regulate their body temperature, so mom will brood over them to keep them warm. The male will bring food to both mom and the chicks. The young are fed about twice an hour. Many of our first nest chicks are fledgling. This week, 166 more chicks have left their nests. There are 309 fledglings already this year! If your birds have fledged, please pull out the old nest and throw them away. For questions and bluebird reports, contact Shirley at [email protected].
