Westlake kicked off July 4th morning with the city’s annual Independence Day pa-rade from Burneson Middle School on Dover to Clague Park. As hundreds of spectators lined Hilliard Blvd., city leaders, civic officials and com-munity groups all took part in this celebration of freedom. At 11:15, Mayor Dennis M. Clough, members of City Council, and special guests honored America’s birthday in a short ceremony at the entrance to Clague Park including the National Anthem, patriotic readings, parade awards, and presentations. Other activities included the city’s 29th annual Charity Classic Car Show, Dog Show, Martial Arts Demo and rides on the Euclid Beach Rocket Car. Balloon clowns and face painters were also among the children’s activities from 10 a.m. to noon. Musical enter-tainment by DJ Eazy began after 6 p.m. and a spectacular Fireworks show began at dusk to rave reviews.

The Ohio State Fair Junior Fair Board is made up of our great state’s best and brightest young leaders, hand-picked to contribute to the success of the Ohio State Fair each year. Selected to represent their respective youth organizations, these stu-dents serve on behalf of thousands of stu-dents across Ohio. As ambassadors for 4-H, FFA, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Farm Bureau, Grange and Tech Ed, they are able to share their experiences and emphasize the value of the Junior Fair with patrons throughout the 12 days of the Fair. Kaitlin Willi of Westlake will be rep-resenting Technology Education on this year’s Ohio State Fair Junior Fair Board. Kaitlin’s public speaking, organizational

and leadership skills will be an asset to this year’s board. In addition, her communica-tion and hands-on teaching skills will en-sure a successful Fair. Kaitlin is the daugh-ter of John and Peg Willi and is a junior at Westlake High School. She is involved with Phi Theta Kappa, the honors pro-gram at Cuyahoga Community College, Techmates and SADD. She plans to attend Wright State University. For Kaitlin, the Fair revolves around sharing ideas and engaging with people, “My favorite memory of the Ohio State Fair was seeing my projects in the tech-nology building. It was so cool to see all of the other projects from kids all over Ohio and how their ideas compared to my own.

What I love most about the Fair is the positive energy.” The Ohio State Fair Junior Fair Board, comprised of 17 members ages 16-19, comes to-gether for two weeks of hard work, building enduring friendships and professional relationships along the way. Their personalities and experiences provide a youthful and fun perspective as they fill the roles of welcom-ing officials at livestock shows, performances, the daily parade and other exhibits. In addition, the Junior Fair Board serve as Smokey Bear’s courteous assistants, friendly faces during fam-ily activities, customer service representatives and enthusiastic companions of our Fair’s mascot, Butters D. Cow. The Ohio Expo Center is proud to host the Ohio State Fair. With big-name entertainment, educational activities, hundreds of exhibits and one of the largest junior livestock shows in the nation, the 2018 Ohio State Fair will run July 25 - Aug. 5.
