MAY 2019
Join us, along with fellow Club members and guests, on Monday, May 13 for a fun and lively evening as we prepare the Fiesta of Gems postcards for mailing, and fill grab bags for the Show. A show of this stature requires a lot of preparation and help (from the Show committee and general membership). Following a long tradition, our May 13 Club meeting will be our Fiesta of Gems Show work – and fun – party. Our Club’s annual crown jewel event is our Fiesta of Gems Show. It is con-sidered by many to be the foremost rock and mineral club show in Southern California. Our Show will be held on Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30 and features opals. Our Fiesta of Gems work party is a lot of fun, and gives our members a great opportunity to reconnect with their fel-low Club members, meet new members, and enjoy some tasty snacks. Join us and make this one of the best meetings of the year!

WORK PARTY
MEMBERS SALE! MAY 25
We have only two tables left for our mineral, slab and jewelry making tools event! Your Club will provide the table and chair, you provide a tablecloth and what ever you want to sell that fits into the above descrip-tion. Only members can be vendors but anyone can come and buy. This event will be at the Scout House, in the back alongside the racquetball court. If you are a member and want a table, please email me ASAP at [email protected]. And remember anyone can buy so bring friends, relatives and strangers if they seem harmless! This will be similar to last year’s tool sale.

The quality and health of any rock club is built on the energy and the contributions of its members. CCRMC is blessed with a great membership with a generous range of knowledge and skills. Our Fiesta of Gems Show is only eight weeks away, so it’s time to give some thought to how you can help or share your knowledge with others.Of course by “helping” I’m talking about helping with set-up, tear-down or a couple hours of work at one of the jobs it takes to run the show on Saturday and Sunday. And by “sharing” I’d like to encourage you to bring out your finest work and put together a display of what you’ve done. Yeah that means finishing up some loose ends, documenting where you found those last few specimens, and putting a final polish on every-thing - but it’s totally worth it. Then get in touch with Steve Dover at [email protected], reserve a display case at the Show, and share your work with folks com-ing to the show. It’s one of the things that makes our Club vibrant and meaningful. For every Show I attend, I make it a point to go in early Sunday morning (the crowd isn’t as heavy then) and spend some time to carefully look through all the wonderful display cases. The many collections and the superb craftsmanship of lapidary and jewelry items made by our members is truly inspiring. Please join us this year.

The West Mojave Route Network Project Final California Desert Conservation Plan Amendment and Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the California Des-ert District, was released today. This is the final ruling on the roads in all of WEMO (9.4 million acres) that we will have to live with for the next 25 years. This is the last chance to make any difference in Recre-ational Rockhounding. This is not a “Comment” period to add or remove anything, that was last time. This is just a comment period to protest a legal issue or a non-com-pliance with some regulation. I really doubt if we Rockhounds, can have any effect on any more changes. This is it”... We win or lose on what was previously submitted......Attached are links1.
