Current position…

• Jody Clarke talking to Year 12 ATAR boys on Friday re TISC applications and General boys re TAFE

• ATAR boys will receive TISC booklet and information on Monday via Tutorial

• Year 12 boys have been given a Post School Transition form via tutorial to complete

• They can indicate on the form if they would like to meet with Jody Clarke to discuss their plans for next year.

Page 7: The WACE/TISC/TAFE process · 2018-02-01 · Tonight’s presentations • Wayne Betts – Executive Officer, TISC • Margaret Brophy – Director of Studies Also with us: • Jody

Current position…• No more withdrawals from subjects with practical

component allowed• Friday 18 August: Last date for withdrawal from

ATAR courses without practical examination components; last date for withdrawal from General courses

• Boys completing Certificate III and IV Fitness must have completed all components by end of Term 3.

Page 8: The WACE/TISC/TAFE process · 2018-02-01 · Tonight’s presentations • Wayne Betts – Executive Officer, TISC • Margaret Brophy – Director of Studies Also with us: • Jody

Term 3 – a demanding term for all boys • Weeks 3 – 8: assessments• Week 9 Mon – Wed: non-assessment days but boys

MUST attend lessons as usual (excellent revision program)

• Sport finishes soon – boys should make study timetable and really commit to academic program – can still make significant improvements

• Use events such as Aths Carnival, Teams Carnival to de-stress, enjoy time together

Page 9: The WACE/TISC/TAFE process · 2018-02-01 · Tonight’s presentations • Wayne Betts – Executive Officer, TISC • Margaret Brophy – Director of Studies Also with us: • Jody

Concerns?

Concerns about how your son is coping? • Contact HoH/tutor (can refer to school

psychologists)• Monitor sleep, meals, use of technology, sensible

balance between study and leisure• Encourage perspective – we want boys to do the

best they can whilst maintaining healthy habits

Page 10: The WACE/TISC/TAFE process · 2018-02-01 · Tonight’s presentations • Wayne Betts – Executive Officer, TISC • Margaret Brophy – Director of Studies Also with us: • Jody

How are we tracking?

• 2017 cohort – median ATAR is strong• A number of boys are still spending more time on

strategy than study• Some are sleeping in class!• Absences from Curtin excursion – concerning.

Page 12: The WACE/TISC/TAFE process · 2018-02-01 · Tonight’s presentations • Wayne Betts – Executive Officer, TISC • Margaret Brophy – Director of Studies Also with us: • Jody

Term 3 - practical exams and portfolios

• Boys have been advised of deadlines for submission of portfolios for some subjects with practical component e.g. PES, Design, MDT - must be done through school

• Boys were informed in Term 2 and the rules made available on the parent portal

• SCSA is extremely stringent in applying the rules• Penalties applied (marks taken off) where rules are breached

– this is upsetting for all concerned.• Managing time and meeting deadlines is vital – last minute

all-nighters are not recommended

ATAR examinations contd.

• Strict rules - no food, clear water bottles - see SCSA Handbook for full list of rules (CCGS has trained boys accordingly)

• Take care with choice of pen – erasable pen cannot be read by machines that mark multiple choice answers or papers that are scanned for marking online (this now happens in many subjects)

• Spare batteries for calculators, spare pens!• Security and fairness paramount.
