FROM YOUR

PASTOR’S HEART

It seems we have had a short and mild summer. Some trees have already begun the change to robes of majesty for the fall season. We give glory to God as we witness the handiwork of His artful brushstrokes of orange,

yellow, and red upon our West Virginia hills. We give God glory not only for the beauty of His creation but for who He is and what He has done for us through Christ Jesus.

Let us show our love for Him every day in all we do and

say.

Weaving the Fabric of Faith – As we gather up the leaves of fall, it is also time to gather our children for lessons of faith. Faith Weavers, our ministry to children in kindergarten through fifth grade will re-start on Sunday, September 15 at 4:30pm. This fall our children will study God the Creator of all and the One who provides for each of us.

To Russia with Love – As the leaves fly upon the wind, so Deborah and I will wing our way to St. Petersburg, Russia September 19 to October 10. I have been invited to teach two courses at the St. Petersburg Evangelical Theological Academy. I will teach a course in Old Testament Theology and one covering the books of Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. Pray that our trip and ministry will be in accord with God’s plans and bring glory to His name. Thank you for your prayers and support.

Everyone Say “Cheese” – As the seasons change, so does the membership of our church. It has been about seven years since we have prepared a pictorial directory of our membership. It is time to address this need. Read more about it on page two to the right.

The October Men’s Community Prayer Breakfast will be Saturday, October 5th at 8am at Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church.

In A Nutshell

A Sunday school teacher gave her second-graders a month to memorize Psalm 23. One little boy was excited about the task but just couldn’t remember the whole chapter.

When the day came for the children to recite the Psalm before the congregation, the nervous boy stepped up to the microphone and said, “The Lord is my Shepherd, and that’s all I need to know!”

Our Finance Team monitors our church budget and spending. Thank you for your regular tithes and special offerings. Each month, we want to present an overview of where we are financially.

Build The Treasury – In 2013 our planned budget needs require sustained BTT giving of $18,000 above our basic tithes for the entire year ($1,500/month). Our BTT challenge for 2013 is on track at this point in the year, but we must continue to sustain our uncommon giving to the glory of God.

Mission Offerings – In 2013 the goals and giving to our two mission offerings so far have been below normal. We must continue to pray and

give to these important offerings that support the work of God’s kingdom in the United States and around the world.

Thank you for giving to Build The Treasury, our Building Fund, and missions offerings—over and above your regular tithe. We faithfully continue to care for our church facility and to reach out to the world with the good news of Jesus Christ.

In the spring we averaged a dozen kindergarten – fifth grade children at our Faith Weavers Sunday afternoon events. During Vacation Bible School we had thirty-eight children in attendance. As fall arrives, we will restart our Faith Weavers ministry.

Faith Weavers will begin regular meetings each week on Sunday, September 15 from 4:30 – 6:00pm. Faith Weavers is a fun-filled time of age appropriate games, food, study, and prizes for children and youth from kindergarten through fifth grade.

Please be in prayer about this important ministry to the children of our church and community. If you feel led to help our children as they weave faith in Christ into the fabric of their lives, please contact Pastor Bill to see how you can be a part of this ministry.

AMA Fall Work TeamRev. Dennis Bajkowski and a team of eight volunteers from Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Camden, NJ will be here September 21-28. This group includes Bob

Kurek, who received a heart transplant earlier this year. We first met Bob when he came with this same

team last October. We have prayed for him as he underwent this surgery. Now we give glory to God to see him again hard at work serving the Lord by serving others. If you know of any work needs in our community that this team could meet, please contact Pastor Bill or Sam Groves.

Dear Lord Jesus, Bless the children and youth of this nation, returning to their schools and colleges. Also bless their teachers as they help them grow in wisdom and knowledge.May Your Holy Spirit enlighten their minds, purify their vision, and strengthen their wills. Protect them as they learn in the classroom and participate in activities outside it. May they learn to follow in your steps, just as you grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. Amen.

Bless the Students and Teachers
