From our Pastor:
The word “awesome” is built on the same root word as “awful.” The Bible describes
powerful experiences of God’s presence that are both awesome and terrible. Those who
experience the unmistakable presence of the Most Holy are filled with awe. By this
definition, these experiences are awe-full! They make us take a breath, stop in our
tracks, be still, and come to our senses. Although we cannot conjure up or predict
moments of genuine awe and wonder, we can put ourselves in a position of expectation,
readiness, and preparedness.
The Holy Spirit is God’s gift of presence, guidance, and strength. The Holy
Spirit helps our spirits to pray as we ought and assures us that we are children of God
and joint heirs with Jesus in God’s Kingdom. The Holy Spirit is bestowed at baptism, and comes bringing
spiritual gifts for ministry in the name and after the example of Jesus. The Holy Spirit breathes through our
worship and moves to do the work of Jesus after him and with him.
Practicing the presence of God, being mindful of the holy around us, reveals to us the sacredness of all
creation, all people, and all God’s world. Remember, “God so loves ‘the world.’” As we grow in spiritual
awareness, our definition of what is sacred expands.
Experiences of God feed our passion for knowing more about God's will and way. And learning more
about God's will and way broadens and deepens our experiences of God, whether they come in congregational
worship, or in the guise of someone we meet in a moment of mercy, or when we are alone with God.
As Passion Week approaches, beginning with Palm Sunday on April 9 and culminating on Easter
Sunday, April 16, I’m preparing to be awed! It helps if you don’t skip the hard stuff between Palm Sunday and
Easter. Come experience the descending of the dark weekend of our collective souls:
Maundy Thursday at the “Last Supper” that would become “The Lord’s Supper”, “Eucharist,” “Holy
Communion”
Good Friday, so ironically named, so awful and awe-full
Holy Saturday, holding vigil in the darkest of nights, in the tomb, facing our inhumanity to each other
through the ages
And celebrating the Resurrection on Easter Day!
Christ has defeated death and has paved the way to new life. Don’t skip the hard stuff. It will make your
Easter all the more glorious! All services, Thursday through Saturday, will be at 7:00 p.m. Of course, on Easter
Sunday we’ll gather for a sunrise service followed by breakfast and both regular morning services with
discipleship classes in between. Wednesday evening supper and study will resume on April 26.
Blessed to be your pastor,
Chris

April 19. We will leave the church at 8:30 a.m. for a tour at 10 a.m. The Center is not
handicapped accessible and is not conducive to wheelchair transport. Cost is $10 each; $8 if our

Church Council: The Church Council met on March 14th
and discussed the roles for our leaders in the
church as well as our responsibilities as your Church Council. We planned our next meeting as
a part of the 2nd
Church Ministry Leadership Conference scheduled for right after our
combined worship service on April 30th
. Please plan to attend this meeting as a committee and
conduct business while we are all present together in our Family Life Center. Reminders and
details will be updated in your church bulletin.
Marty Driver, Council Chairperson
Combined Worship Service on April 30 at 10:00 a.m.
Worship: Consult our church calendar on page 2 "as our menu may have changed." Have you heard some
of that before? Well, it's just a reminder that the Easter and pre-Easter activities may have changed in times or
places. Enjoy the springtime and make worship a priority.
Connie Randleman, Worship Chairperson
Trustees: The Trustees will be working on the grounds in April. Marsha and Jim Downey have already
done all the flower bed work.
A lock box will be installed on one of the columns at the office entrance. This is being done to comply
with a county fire ordinance. The fire chief will have the key to this box.
A work day will be scheduled soon to clean and repair the black chairs in the Family Life Center.
If you have any suggestions or see something that needs to be done, let any Trustee member know.
Virgil Dodson, Chairperson
Youth: The Junior Youth had a busy March! We finished making Poppy Seed Chicken Casseroles to
support our mission work, prepared a meal for NetworX on March 13 and we met after school
on Friday, March 17, to set up the Family Life Center and make brownies for the Red Cross
Blood Drive on Saturday, March 18.
We will have our regularly scheduled meetings on Sunday, April 9, and Sunday, April 23,
after the Traditional Worship Service. We will contact everyone with more details or look for
more information in the church bulletin for upcoming events.
Junior Youth is open to all youth 6th - 8th grade. We are a busy group - we have fun! You
are welcome to join us (adults, too!); but wear comfortable shoes… we usually don't stay in one place very
long. Remember to bring $5.00 to each meeting for your meal. We will let you know ahead of time if we will
be traveling so you can bring extra "fun" money.
If you are interested in joining us, please contact Angie or Bobbi for more information:
[email protected] or (336-244-5739) or [email protected] or (336-399-0879).

United Methodist Women: Yadkinville UMW hosted the Yadkin Valley District Mission Study on
Saturday, March 25. Approximately 175 ladies from all over the District attended. We had a most interesting
study Climate Justice A Call to Hope and Action led by Sandrea Williamson.
Thanks to each of our ladies that contributed to breakfast foods, attended and
greeted our visitors, and those who helped to set up and put things back in order. We
are especially thankful for the men, Jim Downey, Kenneth Baity, Clinton Prim,
Steve Reynolds, and Allen Brandon that helped to move tables and chairs, to Sandy
Steele for taking care of lunch, and Valerie Prim, Yadkin Valley District Chair of
Mission Education and Interpretation, for making arrangements.

Linda Baity, President
Thank you Yadkinville UMW for hosting the District Mission Study. Sandrea Williamson did a fabulous
job reminding all of us that we all play an important role in caring
for all facets of the earth. All left with a better understanding of the
change we must make in reducing, reusing, and recycling. Our
Yadkin Valley UMW committee (including Valerie Prim and
Sandy Steele) would love to thank all the church family that
helped. Our event was successful because of our church family and
their endless Agape Love.
6
UMW members make it all possible. We are faith, hope, and love in action. Come
join us on Tuesday, April 25th at 6:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center to share a
relaxing time and fun with fellow UMW members. We encourage all women in the
church to join us. We will start off with hot dogs with all the fixings and follow
that with a Fun Auction. Bring your friends and “gently used” or new items for the
auction.

Missions: Every month the Missions Committee is focusing on a Mission Outreach project. All loose plate
offering and designated offerings during April will go to this project. The April Mission Focus is IMPACT.
Impact News: June 17 is fast approaching for the week of Impact. We
have 12 older youth that are working construction for the week. Wendy
Plummer and Jill Matthews will be staying with the girls and working
construction. Mark Matthews will be working construction and staying with
the boys. The younger youth will be helping Dale Dodson and Shannon
Sheek with the lunch meals to work crews. Nine other volunteers are
helping with the food preparation. April 2nd will be a fundraiser meal
provided by the youth, to pay for food and construction cost. Thank you to
George Bissette who contributed 2 cases of powdered Gatorade mix. Also
thank you to the Missions Committee for making Impact our mission focus for April. Please consider giving
loose plate money or designated offerings to Impact during the month of April. Check offerings should be
designated to our church youth program. Impact received over 120 applications for help. Around 70 projects
will be completed during Impact week. Adult construction helpers are greatly needed to ensure the success of
this mission in our county.
Jill Matthews, Coordinator
Red Cross Blood drive: The Red Cross blood drive held on March 18th collected 31 pints of blood. This event
would not have been possible without the help of many volunteers.
Thanks to our blood donors - Jim McGrath, Randy Hughes, Margaret Brown, Everette Hartzog, Gingi
Parker, Bruce Whitley, Anne Ivey, Linda Gish, Marcia Downey, and Patty Choplin. The Junior Youth set up the
Family Life Center and made brownies! Betty Boyette, Sandy Steele and Valerie Prim served snacks and
drinks to the donors and the Red Cross staff. Food was provided by Anne Ivey, Mildred Carter, Alda Tesar,
Sandy Steele, Gingi Parker, and Maureen Silvernale.
The next drive is scheduled for November 4th. Put that date on your calendar and plan to be a blood
donor!
