Curriculum Night and Book Fair - Big Success at Wexford October 2nd was this year’s Curriculum Night. All families were invited to the school to enjoy a hot dog dinner, complete with drinks and chips. Families were then able to visit the classrooms and meet their children’s teachers. The teachers explained the program for this school year and the students had an opportunity to show off their work. In total, over 400 family members aended the evening. The autumn 2014 Book Fair was a resounding success. We sold over $3,000 worth of books and supplies resulng in our school receiving $1,400 of books to add to our library and classroom collecons. Many thanks to our wonderful parents and guardians for their connued support of programs that encourage reading. The event would not have been possible without the teamwork and reless efforts of the amazing “Lile Wex” staff and administraon. Of course, very special thanks and appreciaons must go to our grades 7 and 8 students for the fabulous work, effort, organizaon and for “running the show”! Page 2 We Day Celebrated

On October 2nd , the We

Group of Wexford P.S, went to the ACC to learn that you

shoudn't only be thinking about yourself, but also

others in need! There were

many speakers and per-formers such as: Big Sean,

Hedley, R5, Lights, Nelly Furtato, Karl Wolf, Stan

Wesley and many more. They all taught us some-

thing new and encouraged

us to help out the world! We learned so many

ways we can change the world. Free the Children

and We Day were started

by two brothers who thought that there should

be a change in the world and they did a great job!

The We Group had such a great time and wish we

could come back next

year!!! - Helina

Terry Fox Run On Friday September 26th, Wexford participated in the Terry Fox Run. While the Kindergarten classes walked around our back field, the Grades 1-8 classes took to the street to spread the word. We walked and cheered for Terry Fox. As we walked and chanted, cars that passed by honked at us. Even the little kids chanted. We raised money for cancer research by do-nating “Toonies for Terry”. A lot of people gave money which will be donated to the Terry Fox Foundation.

Reaching for the Stars—Achieving new heights here at Little Wex! We are so proud of our Grade 6 Space Explorers who were chosen to participate in the Space Event at the Metro Convention Centre. In order to go, the class was required to prepare a presentation. Of the 27 clas-ses which made submissions, our Grade 6 class was one of six chosen to attend the event. Hurray for Ms Pelc’s awesome grade 6’s! Read all about their day at the Metro Convention Centre on the next page!

Page 3 International Astronomical Space Congress On October 3, 2014, our class went to the Metro Convention Centre for a Kid’s Program about space called the ISZ. ISZ stands for the International Student Zone. There were different stations that we could go to and explore. Each station would teach us something about space exploration. Build a Rover Station One station Dakota and I liked was the “Build a Rover Station”. At this station we got to build a space “asteroid grabber”. We would build it with cardboard and tape and after you could design it if you wanted to. The goal was to pick up an asteroid (which was a cookie) with the rover. We enjoyed using them a lot in the playing area! During this trip we experienced many things we could have never imagined before. We used a 3-D printer and also in another station, we got to feel what it might be like up in space. There were many things that we learned that we will remember for a long time. This trip was out of this world!! - Kisha and Dakota, Grade 6, Ms. Pelc Motion Capture Video On October 3, 2014 our class went to the ISZ (International Stu-dent Zone). During this event, there were two other grade 6 classes there including our class. There were sev-eral centres that let the students learn more hands-on infor-mation about space exploration. Handel and I decided to try making our own motion capture video. While at that sta-tion, we had to pick a story, make a background scene and then make a character out of clay. After we had completed making the character and the background, we met with someone who would help us make our motion capture video. He did this by taking pictures slowly and we would then turn it into a video. The Motion Capture Video was one of our favorite events in the ISZ. We also learned about people who went to space. We got to read stories about people that did special things during space exploration. We learned lots of information about space exploration in the past and all the cool technology of the present. Girls’ Borden Ball Teams Left: Gr. 5, 6 Team Right: Gr. 7, 8 Team

On October 3rd, the Grade 7 and 8 girls had 3 games to play against other schools and we won all 3! This was our first time at a borden ball tournament and we did really well! The first game the girls won 14-0, the sec-ond game the girls won 8-2 and the last game the score was 10-3. In between games we were practising catching, passing, skills, etc. We took breaks and watched other teams play so we knew what our competi-tion was. We would like to give credit to the girls who participated such as Reya, Helina, Jennifer, Jahziyah, Brianna, Sevim, Breanna, Jayden, Yara and Hayley. We had so much fun and hope that we can go again next year! - Reya

Wishing everyone in the

Wexford community a very

happy Thanksgiving!
