Materials: * 2mm crochet hook and adequate yarn for this hook size in the colours black, white, orange, a small piece of green and any tons you like for the skin * 1.5mm crochet hook and adequate yarn for this hook size in the colours black, lilac and pink for the clothes (you can use the same yarn type and hook size for the whole doll, but I think using a smaller hook and thinner yarn makes the clothes lighter and more delicate) * Wool yarn in purple or any colours you like for the hair (I highly recommend not using cotton yarn for this part because the wool is so much lighter, and since it's a lot of hair, you can have trouble using a heavier yarn) * 2 pairs of 7cm safety eyes * Scissors  * Tapestry needle (you can also use a doll needle, which would make some parts easier to work) * Embroidery needle * Pin needles * Stuffing fibre * Handicraft wire or a piece of a wooden stick * Blush makeup  Yarn information: for this project, I used 100% cotton yarn Bella (Fios Pingouin, TEX 370, 5ply, 12WPI) with a 2mm crochet hook and 100% cotton yarn Anne (Círculo Produtos, TEX 295, Ne 4/2, 2ply, 14WPI) with a 1.5mm crochet hook.

Size: approximately 20cm from the tip of the hat. The actual size of the finished item may change depending on the materials used. If you use different sizes of hook and yarn, make sure you adapt the size of the eyes too.

My abbreviations (based on US terms): * MR - magic ring * ST - stitch * CH - chain * SL ST - slip stitch * SC - single crochet * INC - increase (2sc in the same st) * DEC - decrease (sc 2 together) * DC - double crochet * HDC - half double crochet

* BLO - back loops only (do the stitches using only the back loops of your work) * FLO - front loops only (do the stitches using only the front loops of your work) * (STITCH)xNUMBER - number of times you have to repeat that stitch * [ ] - total number of stitches

Tips: * If you don’t know how to do one of the crochet stitches used in this pattern you can search on YouTube for “name of the stitch + tutorials” and you’ll find some very easy and detailed video tutorials for beginners.  * The rows that don’t mention to do a chain between them are worked in continuous rounds, so it’ll be easier if you use a stitch marker to mark every last stitch from the row.

Pattern  Arms: make 2 (2mm crochet hook / skin colour yarn) R1: 6sc in the MR [6] R2-R10 (9 rows): 1sc in each st around [6] Fasten off. There’s no need to stuff the arms since they are too slim. You can insert a piece of handicraft wire if you want to be able to flex your doll's arms in different positions.  Legs: make 2 (2mm crochet hook / white and black yarn)  (With white yarn) R1: 6sc in the MR, sl st [6] R2: ch1, (sc, inc)x3, sl st [9] R3-R5 (3 rows): ch1, 1sc in each st around, sl st [9]  Change to the black colour without cutting off the white yarn. We'll be working one row with the black yarn and one with the white yarn from now on.  *Tip: working with black yarn could be a bit tricky, especially in small size works. I recommend doing it in a place with very good lighting!  (With black yarn) R6: ch, 1sc in each st around BLO, sl st [9] (With white yarn) R7: ch1, 1sc in each st around, sl st [9]  (With black yarn) R8: ch, 1sc in each st around, sl st [9]  (With black yarn) R9: ch, 1sc in each st around, sl st [9]  (With black yarn) R10: ch, 1sc in each st around, sl st [9] (With white yarn) R11: ch, 1sc in each st around, sl st [9]  (With black yarn) R12: ch, 1sc in each st around, sl st [9]  You can cut off the black yarn now. Change to the white colour to finish the next rows.

(With white yarn) R13: ch, 1sc in each st around, sl st [9]  Stuff and insert a piece of handicraft wire in it if you want. Fasten off only on the first leg. We'll continue working from the second one to make the body, so DON'T fasten off!  Body: (2mm crochet hook / white and skin colour yarn)  (With white yarn) R14: Continuing from the second leg, ch5. Then, join the first leg with 9sc around it, do 1sc in each st from the ch5, 9sc around the second leg and 1sc in each st from the other side of the ch5. [28]  Insert a stitch marker on the last st. We'll start crocheting in continuous rows from here.  R15: On this row, we have to do 2inc (one in each side of the body) and 1sc in each other st left. [30] R16-R18 (3 rows): 1sc in each st around [30] Change colours and cut off the white yarn.  (With skin colour yarn) R19: 1sc in each st around BLO [30] R20-R22 (3 rows): 1sc in each st around [30] R23: (3sc, dec)x6 [24] R24: 1sc in each st around [24] R25: (2sc, dec)x6 [18] R26: do sc enough to reach one of the sides of the body and join the first arm with 6sc around it. Then, do more sc enough to reach the other side of the body and do 6sc around the second arm. Finish stuffing the whole body. You can also insert a piece of handicraft wire or a small wooden stick in it if you want the neck to be firmer. R31: (sc, dec)x4 [8] R32: 1sc in each st around [8]

Embroider the eyelids/eyebrows. I recommend embroidering the eyelids before closing the safety eyes with the pins.  R48: (6sc, dec)x6 [42] R49: (5sc, dec)x6 [36] R50: (4sc, dec)x6 [30] R51: (3sc, dec)x6 [24] Start stuffing. R52: (2sc, dec)x6 [18] R53: (sc, dec)x6 [12] Finish stuffing firmly the whole head. R54: (dec)x6 [6] Fasten off, close the hole in the middle and hide the rest of the thread inside the head.

Hair: (tapestry needle or doll needle / purple wool yarn)

1. Use some pin needles to mark the directions where you want to make the hair division and the bangs.

2. Cut a very long piece of yarn and thread a needle with it, leaving two strings of the same size.

3. Then, insert the needle in a stitch on the top of the head and take it out on the front, following the pins. Pull the needle until leaving a tail of yarn just a bit longer than the actual length you want for the doll's hair.

4. Insert the needle again on the same spot we first entered (or very close to it), and take it out in a stitch on the front of the head, right next to the one we used before. Make sure to hold the strings of yarn aligned on the head as you pull the needle.

6

Page 7: The Witch Sisters, Lumy and Lully - Microsoft...Arms: make 2 (2mm crochet hook / skin colour yarn) R1: 6sc in the MR [6] R2-R10 (9 rows): 1sc in each st around [6] Fasten off. There’s

5. Now we have to repeat the process, following the next stitches marked with the pins, until we cover the entire head. When the thread gets too short, take the needle out in a stitch close to the hair division on top of the head and cut the remaining yarn. Cut it just a bit longer than the actual length you want for the hair.

7

Page 8: The Witch Sisters, Lumy and Lully - Microsoft...Arms: make 2 (2mm crochet hook / skin colour yarn) R1: 6sc in the MR [6] R2-R10 (9 rows): 1sc in each st around [6] Fasten off. There’s

* Notice that our objective is embroidering the bangs and the hair covering the doll's scalp. And at the same time, we are leaving some strings of yarn to compound the length of the hair. Try to always choose the closest stitches to a better finishing. It's a lot of hard work! But it's worth the results. Keep strong!

 6. After embroidering the whole scalp, we have to add some more

strings of hair. So, cut some yarn with double the length you want for the hair. Using one of the strings, thread a needle and pass it through 2 stitches right in the hair division on the top of the head. Then, pile the other strings in the middle and make a double knot with the yarn we threaded before. Repeat the process until you have the desired amount of hair.

7. Now you just have to comb and trim your doll's hair the way you want.
