Once home, she as elated and exhausted. She wondered if this was the way it was always going to be or if it was just one of those nights that every woman occasionally experiences.

As she told me the story, I told her I was indeed happy for her, but I was accustomed to hearing such stories from the women I had worked with. Each story had different details, but the theme was the same. Men began noticing them, even when they weren't trying. It was a familiar theme. I told her to get used to this new power because now she needed to learn what to do with it.

Did You Know: 3 Factors of Great Relationships

In all types of relationships (same sex, friendships, parent/ child, husband/wife), there appear to be three common ingredients that will determine the strength of such relationships:

1) Mutual understanding – Communicate with your partner what you believe they’ve said to you. By truly listening to

them, you are creating a bond.

2) Giving and receiving support - When you see the other person in pain, offer to help or listen. Conversely, you need to allow them to help you when you are going through a tough time. It makes them feel important.

3) Value time spent with a

loved one - Don't take those you love for granted. Spending time together means doing things that you enjoy doing as well as things you don’t adore with those you love.
