SYNDICATED is the name we have chosen to name the joint work

of a group of women trade unionists of education, which began to take

shape in several meetings held throughout the year 2006, in the Institute for Women in Madrid.

Those in this group come from different and plural unions (STES-i, FETE-UGT and FECCOO),

but we all united in the belief that together we can face together the challenges we face as women

and as trade unionists education.

We bring our expertise to be widely implanted a culture of equality between women and men.

We intend that where we will hear our voices, voices that can breakthe invisible strength built glass roof over our heads.

Didactic unit for students of Secondary

and Vocational High School

The first governments of The Republic considered Education to be the key to achieve social transformation. Unless due attention was given to school teachers, male and female, it would be impossible to carry out the revolution in the classrooms.

Public education, compulsory, free, active, secular, bilingual and just which tried to end centuries of discrimination by sex or social class.

Within this project of citizenship education the women teachers of the Republic occupied a privileged place a model which embodied the modern, independent women. They would be responsible, to a large extent for the construction and dissemination of new civic identity, to educate their students on the values of equality, freedom and solidarity, both through the transmission of content in the classroom and, especially with their personal experiences.

By law, in 1939, at the end of the Spanish Civil War

and during the years of Franco's dictatorship,

mixed (Co-ed) education was prohibited:

A series of learning aquisitions that would prepare them for family life, handicraft work and domestic industries were the suitable

education policies for girls.

At school they learnt the qualities that should adorn them were

obedience, subordination and modesty and the role of women as mothers and wives

was exalted.

This unit is designed to, recover the memory of the women teachers of the republic, returning their voice, making visible their contributions to the modernization of education and the role they played in the conquest of the rights of women.

Their names, lives and works, must be returned in memory, forming part of the legacy of our educational history
