Design / ConstructionDesign / ConstructionConstructed generator using particle
board, copper wire, and magnets
Placed a dowel rod through the center of the generator, and than placed the magnets on top of the rod with spacers
Constructed a wooden frame from scrap wood to hold the dowel rod in place
Constructed an axel with 5 balsa wooded fan blades, attached them to a circular Styrofoam centerpiece, and attached to the wooden frame
CalculationsCalculations Velocity = (16π) / .2sec
= 251.327 in/sec Acceleration = 251.327 / 1sec
= 251.327 in/sec² = 6.382 m/sec²
F = (.35kg)(6.382 m/sec²) = 2.2343 N P = (Fd)/t
= [(2.2343 N)(16π/39.37)] / (1sec) = 2.8526 W
Produces.5V = J/C
U = ½CV² = ½(3.6 C)(.5)² = .45 J actual
U = 2.8526 = ½(3.6)(V)² V possible = 1.259V
.5V x 100 = efficiency1.259

ProblemsProblems Generator:
◦ Initially used PVC pipe: too thick.◦ Magnet spinning wrong direction.◦ Dimension adjustments due to
friction within generator box.
Windmill:◦ Fan blades breaking.◦ Styrofoam unstable.◦ Issues with fan blades staying put.◦ Not producing enough voltage to light bulb
Solutions:◦ Consulted as a team when problems happened to figure
out solutions◦ Remade generator box◦ Double glued the fan blades on◦ Continually tested until we achieved the desired outcome
