ceived at registration, we madeour way to the section of the audi-torium labeled women's liberation.No one mentioned that we weresupposed to sit on stage. Seatedin the audience we listened to Oli-

ver Ocasek, State Senator fromSummit County, expound uponhow "this is not a nation of pigs,

I am appalled and ashamed that things should have cometo such a pass that I am skeptical of the ability of black re-

volutionaries to achieve a fair trial anywhere in the UnitedStates. In large part the atmosphere has been created bypolice actions and prosecutions against the Panthers in manyparts of the country. It is also one more inheritance fromcenturies of racial discrimination and oppression.

For exercising his freedom of speech, Brewster's outspokenwords provoked the' hue and cry of the American population(led by none other than Spiro Agnew) ; yet, he had touchedupon a very significant question. Can blacks expect to betreated fairly in America's halls of justice?

In the age of people apathy, the question again arises. Con-

sidering the relationship blacks, in particular, and minorities in gen-

eral, have had with the law, there are reasons to doubt whether thecourts are just. White Americans have been able to use the courtsas vehicles for justice; Blacks have an entirely different experience.Historically, the law, as far as blacks are concerned, has been thechild of racism. Therefore, Blacks do not comprehend or care about.beautiful references to Jeffiersonian and Jacksonian democracy. I canenvision now those (present-da- y guardians of American jurisprudence)who frown upon references to the past. Such reactions would be jus-

tified if America were able to sever itself from its past. The sameforces that imposed injustice on blacks in the past are at work today.Since this is also the age of slogan politics (Law-N-Orde- r) , we woulddo well to examine historically the law as it has been applied toblack people. From the beginning, American law has restricted, con-

stricted, and downgraded the possibilities for Blacks. (The law in-

stitutionalized chattel slavery, and it provided for and justified JimCrowism.)

If you were among the 1600who missed convocation this week,you are probably just as well in-

formed on the topic "Communica-tion and Mass Media" as the other100 or so who attended RichardStout's talk. Although words ofthe Newsweek correspondent seem-ed related to the ideas of broad-casting, journalism and news re-

porting, he managed to avoid pre-senting information which couldhave offered real insight to thesubject.

Once past his introductoryapologies, however, Stout launchedinto an attempt to relate certainconcepts with which most of theaudience was already familiar asmembers of the "television gener-ation." He observed that journal-ists often create ideas and thenfeed upon each others' thoughtsand work. This results in the re-

petition of a story from one newsservice to another or from a syn-

dicate to a . local news outlet withno more authority than that ofthe original writer.

As a response to those who donot like the picture of the worldthat filters through the media,Stout would point out that objec-tivity in reporting is merely amyth. He revealed that most ofhis colleagues at Newsweek dis-- (

cows, and trees . . . one man, onevote." Seeing nine uniformed men(army, air force, and police) onstage all staring down at us, thecomment broke us up. -

Maybe the U.S. is not all pigs,cows, and trees, but the resourcepersonnel assembled representedjust about as monochromatic apicture. Among the group weretwo Blacks (and no black studentsin the audience) and one otheryoung person. The spectrumranged basically from moderateto ultra-conservativ-e. These people(including us) were designated as"resource persons" for a varietyof topics from law enforcementto youth values. Representative ofthe spectrum of opinion in manyof these groups was the lineup forSelective Service (all four weredirectly involved in the adminis-tration of the S.S. system).

When we moved up on stage toact our part as resources for the"town meeting discussion" it wasour unanimous decision to offerour opinions on whatever topicwas presented, if we found noother respondents speaking anybut the Time-Lif- e version.

As it turned out, our plans wereunnecessary, because the studentsdirected their questions to us. We

Is anyone cheating thesedays at Wooster? Judging bythe activity of the JudicialBoard on academic cases thisyear, the answer would appearto be no.

The Board has heard onlyone case of a violation of theCode of Academic Integrityso far this year, and, explainsBoard chairman Don Dewald,that case was actually leftover from last year. In addi-

tion, student Referees RodMcDonald and Jan Coltonhave not been approached yetthis year to deal with breachesof the Code.

The results of a survey takenby a student for a psychology pro-

ject in November, however, sug-

gest violations are indeed takingplace. While there are some sta-

tistical problems with the survey,it is valuable in terms of its gen-eral indications:

For example, a total of 650 stu-

dents returned the psychologyquestionnaire; of the 199 fresh-men who replied, 4.5 percent ad-

mitted having broken the codeonce, and 5 percent more thanonce. Of that same group of fresh-men, 5.5 percent witnessed an-

other person breaking the code;and 10.1 percent more than once,

John Dinen, the 1969 COWgraduate who was indicted for re-

fusing induction into the service,is now out of jail on $1000 bailand awaiting his trial, which maytake place anytime in the nextfew months. He has opted for a

jury trial because he feels that hewill have a better chance that way.His judge, J. W. Ford, is 87 yearsold and sent COV to jail as longago as WW II. Ford's last COcase was given three years inprison. In a letter, Dineen wrote,"I would say the odds are notwith me, but it is really intangible.There are some procedural pointswhich are possibilities, but themajor arguments (in the trial) willbe on my loard, their attitudes,and my letters (written to theboard expressing his views on thewar and the draft) and CO state-ment."

For the last three weeks a fund-raisin- g

campaign to cover the costof Dineen's lawyers has been con-

ducted on campus. He needs about$1000, and over $800 has now

ies Committee (made up of onerepresentative from five participat-ing traditional disciplines:. Eco-nomics, Sociology, Religion, His-tory and Political Science) re-mains committed to an UrbanStudies program at the College,,yet voted on Jan. 14, 1971, toabolish the Urban Studies major.The committee believes that theCollege of Wooster cannot offer abonafide major, producing thecaliber of expertise needed in con-

fronting the all encompassingproblems of the urban scene.

Their rationale is based on theapparent lack of attraction whichWooster's rural location has forurban experts. This in no jwayimplies that they consider an Ur-

ban Studies program inappropri-ate at the College of WoosterJ TheUrban Studies Committee believesthat the program can be streng-thened by abolishing the major.The Urban Studies program wouldcontinue to offer the off-camp-

experience and a core of relatedcourses. j

The : (Urban Studies majors'strategy on strengthening the pro-gram differs. The students believethat the commitment of the collegecannot be Reestablished and main-tained by abolishing the major. Ifthere is no major to support theintellectual desires of students thatarise out of the off campus ex-

perimental, program, they feel theentire program will inevitably beweakened. In their opinionj onlya commitment to Urban Studies asa major can enrich the programand fulfill the intellectual pursuitsand interests of students. In sup-port of their case, students citethe progress that has been (madein the area of improvement of thetotal program, including the ad-

dition of fwo new professors withurban experience. j

The interdisciplinary approachto education at the College ofWooster is going to be tested inthe near future, beginning withthe Urban Studies Committee'srecommendation being entertainedby i E.P.C. .today its decision be-

ing the first step in the mainten-ance or abolition of the major. Ac-

tion taken! on the Urban Studiesmajor will set a precedent pertain-ing to the educational ideals atthe College. If the Urban Studiesmajor is abolished, then the con-cept of interdisciplinary majorsis in grave trouble. j

Poll Needed On CodeSome discouraging words on the Code of Academic Integrity.

The results of a psychology project (see pg. 1) dealing with honorviolations prompted a look at the cheating situation this year.

On the surface all is peaches and cream. Judging from the num-

ber of cases reported to the Judicial Board (none, from this academicyear) dishonesty ias either evaporated or is being handled discreeetlyon a level of personal confrontation.

Although there is nothing to panic about, the results from theinformal poll imply (1) violations are occurring and are not beingdealt with and (2) most students have no idea how violations can behandled.

Over 60 percent of those polled answered they would not reportthemselves or another who they witnessed breaking the code. Thereis another alternative, not offered in the poll that of confrontingthe alleged violator personally. While it is unfortunate the poll didnot consider this crucial alternative, there are indications there iscomparable reluctance for students to opt for this alternative. Thecase one faculty member reveals of a group of students coming tohim to report cheating in his class, yet refusing to give names for fearof physical reprisals is perhaps symbolic of the traditional aversionto confronting or informing.

The preliminary reaction to the code is that it has been a suc-

cess. We hope so. There are indications however, that it is reallylittle more than a convenient showcase. The chairman of the JudicialBoard has said he would take a poll of the faculty next week to de-

termine the extent of known violations. We urge the SGA or CampusCouncil to conduct a poll of the student body to assess adherencyand ignorance of the Code of Academic Integrity.

The few rumors, partial facts and suspicious do not constitutea negation of the Code. However, a statistically reliable poll is needednow to gauge the Code's true validity, and either quench or confirmthe notion it is litde more than a quaint document. D. D.

Attitude The IssueUnfortunately, it is not too difficult to find men on this campus

who are just now discovering that maybe women are people. Ap-paren- dy

Mr. .Harwood, whose comments on Wooster women haveappeared in the last three issues of Voice, is one and I would imaginethat his articles were revealing to many men.

In his way, Mr. Harwood has made some points: that somewomen are rather unconcerned about a "no date" weekend; thatit is indeed foolish to impersonally rate "datables"; and that somewomen are curious or interested in sex which is not necessarily anadjunct to marriage.

The impact and tone of the columns has, however, been quitedifferent. It has been mocking, condescending, with the implicationthat the opposite sex" is more to be studied or scrutinized than knownas persons. I do not feel that I am being oversensitive. Women havebeen treated as children and chattel, without intellectual or personalcharacter, and Mr. Harwood's attitude is exactly what we will nolonger accept. .

I was hoping I would not have to write this editorial. Thereare many people on this campus who have had strong reactions toopinions presented in Voice this quarter. If so, please write themdown, and let us and the rest of the campus know. C. W.

Who's WhoIt was a surprise to see Stewart Udall, former Secretary of the

Interior, suddenly hauled into court to face a charge of shoplifting.The man who rafted down the Snake River with Lady Bird Johnson,venerated by conservationists ... a thief? Udall protested, it hadbeen a case of "absent-mindness- ", and there's litde suspicion that hecagily premeditated to heist a 95-ce- nt pack of Dutch Masters.

Udall's case, according to the New York Times, was "dismissedbefore he had to face trial when higher chain store management over-ruled the local people and withdrew the charge." Hopefully the epi-

sode is instructive both to newspaper readers and to Mr. Udall him-

self, now a Washington lawyer. It is the old adage of who you arethat determines what you can get away with, or can be forgiven for.We wonder if there would have been similar leniency for a forgetfulpilferer characterized by long hair, a darker pigment, or simpleanonymity. D. D.

tribute more than a minimalamount for three meals. There hasbeen some talk of the CO supportgroup establishing a permanentfund for helping to finance caseslike John Dineen's. Nothing, how-eve- r,

has been made definite.

How does Dineen feel abouteverything that has happened tohim in the last few weeks? A re-

cent letter from Dineen to Rev.

Swartzback perhaps answers thatquestion best:

"Maybe it is a relief to actuallybe indicted. It's the anonymity,the safety of America, that, Ithink, drives us to depression andcynicism. Nothing like seeing myname, my own name, appear be-

fore me to help me feel that Iam not a nothing, but that eachhuman life can be ultimately valu-able and worthwhile. It's not aromantic ego-tri-p, but it is asolid and realistic faith in myselfand the strength of my being. Bythe way, Fve been reading a lotof Thomas Merton lately and ambegining to get a feeling that faithisn't as far away as I once thought.Merton is beautiful! That, plusthe growing company of "crimin-als" like the Berrigans, the Harris-bur- g

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Men of Wooster,Believe it or not, there are some girls on this

campus who aren't "out to get you". So far itseems that most boys have the impression that ifthey ask a girl out or even just walk with herto class that they're trapped because she expectsmore than just friendship.

We realize that there are some girls like this.But there are also some who want to meet youas friends friends to share things with like thebeauty of one of Wooster's rare snowfalls; friends

were the "hippies," the "revolu-tionaries" they had read about,and they wanted to hear our line.

And that is exactly what it wastaken as a line. The pitch of thetown meeting fell into emotional-ism, where statements were judgedby the emotional content ratherthan their rational meaning.

The questions dwelt mainly onthe draft, the Establishment, andwomen's lib. Among them, "Don'tyou like to be a lady?" "What isa lady?" we responded. The youngman questioning us had no ans-wer.

When one student (the only oneof his sentiment to speak) com-

mented that he did not feel any-one could believe in the Bible andstill kill, another rose to answerthat, of course you could, for thebloodiest batdes in history tookplace in the Bible.

"If you respect individual free-dom so much, how can you pushwomen's liberation on us?" Weoften remarked that we wantedto be humanly free, but most ofthem could not grasp how onecould be free without fighting forhis freedom by killing people inVietnam.

. The essence of the commentswas that the Establishment madeour presence on stage possible, andwe therefore must accept it, defendit, and not question it.

To conclude the "discussion"we were told that we looked "vul-gar" by a girl whose skirt couldbe measured in inches-bdow-t- he

crotch. She added that, while wehope that the Establishment woulddie, she hoped that "your move-ment" would die.

The second session began withthe various (30) small discussiongroups. The administration of theconference decided, after themorning session, to throw in an-

other expert, a woman from thecounty school office who had"made it in a man's world." Muchof the conversation unfortunatelycentered on the idea of respect,i.e. "Don't you like to have aman open a door for you ?" Deal-ing with respect we mentioned thatwomen's liberation is human liber-ation freedom for role choice formen as well as women and re-

spect for all people. But doorswere still important.

Back to the big group for sum-maries of what the students hadlearned in their discussions:

"Criminals have more laws intheir favor than we have in ours."

"The girl is the one who usu-ally gets emotionally involved."

"Abortion leads to lower mor-als."

ings and opening up to each other. They want totalk to you when you're happy or when you'redepressed.

"The people have been brain-washed for the Pollyanna : fluffstuff for years. But now peopleare facing reality and the X-rat- ed

films are beginning to sell." Sosaid Tom Williams, the managerof the Wooster Theater on LibertyStreet. When Mr. Williams, whohas been in movie management inWooster for 16 years, started show-ing X movies Candy, The Killingof Sister George, and The Foxseveral years ago, he receivedmany protests from concerned citi-

zens as well as unfavorable edi-

torials in the Daily Record andstrenuous objections from theWayne County Ministerial Asso-ciation. After several . meetingswith the ministers, Mr. Williamsconvinced them that actually hehas no control over the films hepresents in the theater.

Wooster Theater is part of thechain of cinemas known as Coun-try Wide Theaters, Inc. The man-agement of this corporation, lo-

cated in New York City, - meetsalong with movie distributors ofother companies and submits bidsfor the right to handle currentfilms. Consequently Mr. Williamshas to take what he receives fromNYC.

According to Mr. Williams, thebiggest grosser (no pun intended)for his theater was Valley of theDolls, followed closely by TheGraduate. When considering thatWayne County is an agriculturalarea, it is no wonder that AlaskanSafari and other nature films doalmost as well as the R-rat-

ed

movies. Films that never seem tomake money here are the foreignart movies like I, AWoman. Thereis apparently no audience for suchfilms.

The Lyric II on the other handpresents a different outlook onWooster's movie screen. WhereasMr. Williams had a very positiveattitude toward good, wholesomefamily flicks like Walt Disney'sMrs. Margaret Brubaker, managerof the Lyric II, declared that wholeeveryone talks about wanting cleanmovies, nobody comes to see them.She pointed out that The Shoesof the Fisherman with AnthonyQuinn was the biggest box office

The Lyric II is an independenttheater and negotiates for filmsthrough a cooperative of inde-pendent theaters in Cleveland. Be-

cause a theater of this type lacksthe buying power of a chain, thestandard rates are $2.00 for adultsas compared to the Wooster's priceof $1.50. However, the Lyric gen-

erally gets in the latest releasessooner than the Wooster due toits direct handling of films.

The most profitable movie Mrs.Brubaker has presented so far hasbeen Airport, which played threeweeks and for which over 20,000admissions were paid.

This week's movie selections,The Aristocats and The AmericanWilderness, may not seem to suitcollege student tastes, but theywill likely serve the town and thetheater managers well.

The faculty has recendy ap-proved a new policy which givesthe student the option to take atotal of seven S--U courses, or threemore than present policy permits.

Restrictions arc basically thesame. Students must have com-

pleted 18 courses and have at leasta 2.0 cumulative to take advan-tage of the system. The 7-cou-

second day in Philadelphia. Therent was pennies, the landlord wassuch a darling ancient we grab-bed it and never regretted ourdecision despite the anxieties thatstarted that night.

Germantown Avenue on ourblock is cobblestones and trolleycars. September was brutally hot

our bedroom faced the streetand we soon grew accustomed tothe constant noise from below, aswell as from the apartment above.1 shouldn't say "accustomed"rather we gradually tensed up tomeet it. I never really relaxedthroughout those fifteen weeks.

What has happened is thai Ihave internalized these experiences

have isolated the quarter as awhole from the rest of my educa-tion simply to give it the seriousattention that it deserves not justas a unique form of education,but also as an experience whichstrained and altered many existingpreconceptions, alti tudes, andfears. And it shaped new ones.

The open" classroom describedhere is in a public school in theGermantown section of Philadel-phia.

"You mean we can chew gumand talk and walk around theroom?" After a few weeks of chaos

to excell for their own fulfillmentrather than for the sake of groupcompetition and peer pressure.

Rarely do the children sit intheir own seats. In the morningthey come in and work ' on theirindividualized reading cards. Thenwe have a class meeting. We dis-cuss the activities, of the day andwrite them on the board and withthat they are free. They canchoose what they want to do.Typical choices might be: playinga spelling game; making stringprint paintings; practicing mathfor a math test; or reading. Theymight bake banana bread and thenwrite a short paper on bananas, orwork on one of the many availablesocial studies or science projectcards we personally wrote up.They might make a mobile, con-struct a man out of junk, or makeup their own project cards. Child-ren, once set free, find hundredsof projects to do. Their imagina-tions are endless.

In the latter part of the after-noon they are divided up intogroups which change every twoor three weeks. These groups learnto cooperate together as a team.They might be asked to make upan original game for the rest ofthe class, or write a poem, or havea yo-y- o . or dance contest.! ' At theend of the two or three weeks thewinning team has an ice cream

the 5th grade children got usedto the idea of being in an openclassroom. They knew that theyhad something special that mostof the other classes in the schooldidn't have and they began tofeel proud.

Open classrooms are based onthe following suppositions: thatchildren --will be creative and willlearn if they are given the free-dom to do so; that independentprojects promote a feeling of satis-faction and self worth in the child;that a quiet class doesn't necessar-ily mean a class conducive tolearning; that children working attheir own pace and level will learn

So Blacks are questioning. Blacks distrust the judicial system(largely White Anglo-Saxo- n Protestant Justice, since trial by one'speers is still a dream deferred), not only because of what happenedto them in the past, but because of the flagrant failure of today'scourt systems, especially when opinions of guilt or innocence emanatefrom the chief of state through the news media. (I found it appallingthat the president could compliment the FBI for capturing AngelaDavis and remain silent concerning the recent 'escapades of BobbyBaker). Therefore, Blacks question the law (at least laws they haveexperienced) as well as the press that supports it.

Why is it that no arrests were made in the winter of 1970 when

guards at Indiana's Pendleton Reformatory systematically shot un-

armed black prisoners . engaging in sit-dow- n demonstrations? Why

were no arrests made in Brooklyn I summer 1970) when a group ofoff-dut-y policemen savagely beat Black Panther members? Why hasthere never been prosecution of the men charged with the murderof the Mississippi three. James Chaney. Andrew Goodman, and Mich-

ael Schwemer? Why is it that White men's juries in Michigan andMississippi cannot find it in the evidence ot convict White men forkilling unknown Blacks in the Algiers Motel or Medgar.Evers in Jack-

son? Incredible.Like most events affecting the lives of Blacks, most newspapers

treated these events in a perfunctory maimer only to abandon themaltogether. Questions? But this is the age of reason and apathy andwe are not supposed to probe.

party. In this way we created abalance between individualizedacademic work, and cooperativesocial play. Math tests and spellingdrills are also done in the remain-ing time in the afternoon.

The class has 27 children in it.They . are from foster families,broken homes both lower andmiddle class homes. Many of thechildren had poor scholastic rec-ords in the past. One boy spentthe whole of last year sitting in acorner with a toy clock. In thethree months that I spent in thatclassroom the changes were mir-aculous! In the beginning theyplayed games during their freetime. Then one by one they beganto ask for the project cards andto pursue more academic activi-ties. Through working on the pro-jects they began" to discover thelibrary in a positive way. Theylearned the thrill of writing a playon cavemen, or painting a muralon community life, of writing astory about landlords or cock-roaches, black power or the raperwho brutalized a second grader intheir school. They started a news-paper. They wrote poems on drugs,on pollution and on math home-work. They are noisy, enthusiasticand intellectually curious.

They have learned that schoolisn't a prison. They have dis-covered that they can be creative.They have opened their ears andhearts to new facts and new ex-

periences. An open classroom is apositive step towards a more ef-

fective educational system." Theonly frustrating aspect is that nextyear these happy children are go-

ing to be shuffled around andplaced in the traditional classroomsof -- the school. One wonders if itmight have been better to leavewell enough alone rather than givethe children a taste of it andthen take it away. But then thereal hope is that what has beenkindled in them will remain andgrow in spite of the odds and inspite of the repression of the yearsto come.

Just for fun, I thought this week I would venture from theland of the Fighting Scots and share with you my experiences andthoughts on one of America's fastest growing winter sports snowskiing. With the weather as it has been for the past two weeks, Ithink this is an excellent time to write about this sport!

During the first week this quarter, I was confronted bysome guys on my floor to accompany them skiing late one after-noon and evening. Before I had time to dream about all of those

- novices who break their limbs on their initial adventures on skis.I was hustled into a car and headed for Mansfield's Snow Trails(this is not a plug for Snow Trails either!)

NUpon arrival at the slopes, we entered the Lodge (a place I

would have been wise to stay in the entire night, I think!) andpaid nearly $10 for our tow tickets and rentals money that hadleeri designated as book money this term! After struggling to puton my boots, and then the skis. I slowly made my way to the towropes (you didn't think I would use the ski lifts the first time out, didyou?!?).

However, before grabbing the tow rope, I had a quick lessonfrom one of my "distinguished" ski colleagues on how to use the towropes, how to turn, and of course, how to stop. (Technically, Iguess that's called snowplowing, . but I never did manage to do itright!) Surprised that I made it up OK on the first try on the towropes, my confidence rose until I prepared myself to go down theslope! I made a "slow turn and then started to move. Before I knewwhat was happening, I was headed straight down the hill! I couldn'tturn or stop; so I did as any smart beginner would do, I fell downat the bottom of the slope and still managed to crash into the dirtembankment at the end of the snow!

If you think that was pathetic, wait until you hear a couplemore of my great shows! First, there was the time one of theguys yelled at me from the ski lift. As I looked to see who itwas, I lost control, and before I could stop, had skiied (slid)under two tow ropes. Before they could stop the ropes, a femaleskier, screaming at the top of her lungs to get out of her way,was pulled over the top of me. At this stage of the game, I wasbeginning to ask myself if it was all worth it or not.

I also ended the evening on a spectacular note. Having hadtrouble with my right boot all night, the safety strap broke as I at-tempted a turn and wiped out as usual. When picking myself up, Inoticed I only bad one ski underneath me. Looking down the slope,I saw its partner gracefully slip under all four tow ropes and gentlystop in the ditch at the bottom! That did it. I took the other skioff, and, hiding my face in the process, slowly found my way to theLodge!

Looking back at the -- slopes as we pulled away to return to theland of the Fighting Scots, I could feel every ache and pain, not toforget my slightly frostbitten fingertips, in my body. Even today, Ikeep telling myself, at least you're not one of those poor noviceswho manages to break a limb the first time on the slopes!

This finally leads me to ask why our physical educationdepartment does not offer ski instructions? Many schools through-out the country do a large Ohio Wesleyan group was therewhen we were. The course could be offered for a fee just likehorseback riding and scuba. In talking with Mr. Bob Bruce, thecampus Athletic Director, I learned that several complicationswould have to be ironed out; but that interest must be high forthe P.E. department to discuss the matters.

Therefore, I guess my original question should be changed toask, is there enough interest on campus for ski instruction? Is thereor do most people like to take the novice chances of breaking a limbthe first time?

Following Tuesday's 81-7- 2 winover Oherlin, the Scots were rank-ed 15th nationally by the UPI.

It's hard to say anything newabout a team that's 17--1, one ofthe winningest of all the nation'scollege teams. It just keeps plug-ging along with drive and deter-mination to make this the bestseason ever for Wooster basketball.

Tomorrow night, the Scots facea shorter version of the Mus-kingum Muskies than the OhioConference is used to comingout of New Concord, ut the 1 971Muskies have a streamlined lookwith two outstanding guardsand a quick forward. "It'll be atypical Muskie team," assessedcoach Van Wie. "They'll be ag-gressive and quick."

Wednesday is a game that theScots have been looking at withextreme caution over the past few

- The U.S. Army's preventative medicine officer for Saigon, Dr. John Mar-

shall, in an interview published by the Headquarter Area Command for

Saigon, said the obvious answer to the drug problem among Gl's is an"exodus from Vietnam." .

Drugs are an escape mechanism tor soldiers who are. here not of tneirown choice. "Many of them are against the war in princfple. The prospectsfor escape present themselves in the place of the other things a soldier overhere is denied," Marshall said.

The army has developed an amnesty program as a half-measu- re meen-five- "

to curb drug use. The program is the army's main effort to stop bur-

geoning use of drugs, and began as a "deal" with the drug-user- s and asan "administrative stop-gap- ." The program was created because the onlyalternative, says Marshall, "was to prosecute thousands of people."

Although some violations of theCode perhaps are being handledon an individual level between thestudent and faculty member in-

volved (and this is provided forunder the Code), the fact that nonew cases have been presentedeither to the Board or to theReferees implies that a consider-able number of violations simplyare being ignored.

Several other provisions of theCode may be suffering from neg-lect as well. For example, that each

Although this is the third weekin a row that I have exposedsomething pertaining to the folliesand foibles of women on this cam-pus, this is not a hate column (ex-

cept in the reaction to its author) .

It has just turned out that femaleshave been doing more weird thingsthis quarter than anyone or any-thing else.

Anyway, three weeks ago, whileI was taking my guided tourthrough . Holden Hall, the moresophisticated sophomores of Wag-ner Hall were amusing themselvesin a way that was not evidentin the freshman dorm. They werewatching stag flicks.

Some fair maiden in Wagnerreceived two exceedingly highclass movies (no doubt to satisfythe equally high class audience).In the male sectors of the campusthese films are known as "TheTriangle" and "The Lesbies". Thefirst one stars two wholesomeyoung chicks and an all-Americ-

boy. The second one' stars twomore mothers of virtue. The actionis, to say the least, very graphicand somewhat realistic. You talkas though you've seen them, Har-wood, comments a voice in thecrowd. I'll never tell. My parentsread this.

Some 26 fresh, young Woostercoeds piled into one of their co-

hort's rooms, taking away valu-able dollars and cents from Mateerwhich was showing Take theMoney and Run on that particularevening.

However, according to reliablesources, at least half of the girlsleft after about five minutes be-cause they were "grossed out" (orsome other Woosterism) . Thissounds better than it actually is.Why did it take these young ladiesall of five minutes to become ill?Usually movies of this type donot take that long to get to themeaty parts they can't afford to.The important thing to rememberis that a fair amount left theroom after a short time becauseof sickness (or was it boredom?).Notice that I did not say all ofthem left. What about the oneswho stayed? This kind of thingwasn't mentioned in Barron's Cata-logue of Colleges.

Hopefully, some other sentimentkept this exclusive party in theroom. Let's pray that- - it wasn'tnostalgia. Maybe it was someWomen's Lib ploy. Or idle curio-sity. Or an experiment on de-

cadence. I wonder if the girls aregoing to take ideas from themovies and employ them in theirnext big floor party.

What gave these wonderful girlsthe splendid idea of acquiringthese masterpieces? Maybe theytook the word stag too seriously.Maybe they thought they were go-

ing to see Bambi.
