The World is today's greatest development icon - an engineering odyssey that has created anisland paradise of sea, sand and sky off the coast of dubai. Three hundred islands reclaimed inthe shape of the world map - 9km wide and 7km long. The development is a collection of privateand resort islands. The World is fast evolving as one of the most exclusive addresses on theplanet.

    The World Facts

y The World was announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoumon May 6th 2003 and the first sand was poured in September 2003 to build the WorldIsland.

y The World development represents countries and cities from across the globe and eachisland will be home to a collection of estates, luxury condos, scenic resorts, restaurantsand retail outlets set amidst a range of beaches, yachting and other leisure opportunities.

    beahfront.y

All of the islands will range from 150,000 sq feet to 450,000 sq feet in size, with theaverage island measuring approximately 300,000 sq feet.y The average distance between islands is 100 meters.y The average depth of water in The World is 15 meters.y Original cost of islands ranged between $20 - $50 million.y 320 million cubic meters of sand have been used to create The World islands.y 347 million tonnes of rock have been used to construct the 27km breakwater which is

approximately 4 meters above sea level.yy Four hubs on The World will function as the marine hubs, commercial and public areas

and utilities service points. For example, ferries will bring passengers to these hubs whocan either visit a restaurant in the commercial area attached to the hub or take a taxi to apublic island within The World.

The World is divided into Private Estate island zones, Commercial zones which have low-midhigh density resorts, and hubs which are the ferry transfer points and public visitor areas.Through the vision ofH.H General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Princeof Dubai and UAE DefenseMinister, Nakheel is creating the most exclusive propertydevelopment ever, The World. With The Palm, Nakheel puts Dubai on The Map.
