The Worlds Biggest Worm Hole Dear Friend or Relative welcome to episode 6. On typing the above it occurs to me that a select few could fit into both categories ie. Friend and Relative. Please remember that this sub group is small, variable in size and volatile in nature as it exists only according to my mood and whether you have remembered the horses birthday, wattle day (before those bastards in Canberra changed the date) and other equally exciting events of great importance that occur annually around the same time (i.e. my birthday). Pleasantries completed, let’s get down to it. Between 140,000 and 400,000 years ago (on the 1 st of August as it turns out) a huge volcanic eruption gave BIRTH to an interesting phenomenon. The Place - Mt. Surprise, far North Queensland. Molten lava the consistency of water flooded a vast area, as the outside of the flow cooled it formed tubes through which the lava continued to flow. The lava finally drained away leaving “tubes” under the ground up to 160 kms long. The roof of the tube has collapsed in the years since allowing access to parts of this subterranean geologists theme park. And there endeth the geology lesson. The Undara Lava Tunnel
