THE YOUTH ARTS AND CULTURE COUNCIL 2019 – 2020 Application

The Youth Arts and Culture Council (YACC) is a collective of youth who advocate for youth

representation in Phoenix and provide arts and culture experiences to all in Phoenix. Members are

city of Phoenix and represent Phoenix’s eight council districts.

We are seeking youth who are 15-19 years old and live in council districts 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, and 8.

The first weekly meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2019

Weekly meetings are currently scheduled for Wednesdays from 4:30pm – 6:30pm

at Phoenix City Hall or City of Phoenix Libraries. (This is subject to group consensus.)

Attendance is required. Public transportation passes for the Light Rail and Bus will be provided.

Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture Youth Arts and Culture Council

The Youth Arts and Culture Council (YACC) is a collective of young artists from all arts disciplines who

advocate for youth representation in Phoenix and provide arts and culture experiences to all in Phoenix.

Members are city of Phoenix and represent Phoenix’s eight council districts.

CORE VALUES YACC members believe…

• Young adult artists should have full body and voice representation in every planning process of all arts and culture experiences

• Taking action for ones community must include young adult artists voices

• In democratic conversations and opportunities to artistically collaborate with full representation from all persons at the intersection of any age, race, culture, class, religion, sex, national origin, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression

• That exposure to different identities is beautiful

• Arts and Cultures are the expression of humanity across generations

WHAT WE DO YACC creates and implements…

• Weekly meetings of the YACC collective to review issues relating to arts & culture programs and services for youth.

• Monthly events to enhance youth participation in arts & culture.

• An annual city-wide gathering of all young Phoenix artists to meet and discussed ways to strengthen communities through arts & culture.

• Presentations to recommend changes in programming and policies at Arts Advocacy Day at the State

Capitol, City of Phoenix Budget Hearing Meetings, Arts Organizations, Social Services facilitities, and

other spaces youth are affected

• Social Media accounts to link all young people to arts and culture events

Are you willing and able to make the time commitment to the Youth Arts and Culture Council every Wednesday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. from October to mid-April? Do you anticipate there would be anything that would get in the way of you committing to the Youth Arts and Culture Council?

This council works directly with the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture, which is a city government office. Tell us briefly how you think government could invest more in arts programming for youth (communities, neighborhoods, schools, etc.)
