THE CRYSTAL BALL LOOKING INTO THE MIND OF A TOP BOSS PAlife CRYSTAL BALL 26 PALIFE.CO.UK JUNE 2012 PALife CHECK OUT ALL PAST AND FUTURE CRYSTAL BALL INTERVIEWS AT PALIFE.CO.UK Q Do you have a PA? Absolutely – I would be lost without one! My PA is not just my “booker” and organiser – the role is a lot more. All of my team, PA included, share the same passion for hair, style, fashion and, above all, client service that I do. We’re a team, and the level of finesse my PA brings to my professional life is vital. Q What makes a PA so important? It’s about understanding the bigger picture – marrying crucial scheduling with the needs of the industry I’ve worked in for over three decades. It’s also the ability to think laterally and work out the most efficient route to a full but smoothly executed day. When you find that in a person, you have struck gold. Q How would you describe the perfect PA? Organised and smart with a passion for helping people help themselves. Q How important are PAs in helping your business? They keep a busy and creative ship running smoothly, allowing me to focus on running the salon and my mentoring commitments. Q What is the collaboration between you and Miss Jones? Between all the planning a PA does for her job, it’s important she takes some time for herself. To celebrate the refurbishment of my London salon, we invited a group of PAs from the online social network to enjoy an evening of blow-dries, hand massages and champagne. Q Why did you choose to target PAs? They run the world! I feel very passionately that the people who make other people look good, and who are expected to look good themselves, should have access to top styling and grooming. At the Errol Douglas salon we deliver the ultimate finish – styling with longevity that means a PA won’t just look good on the day but for many days thereafter. Our ongoing partnership is designed to make high-end grooming accessible to the entire PA community. Q Who is the best PA you’ve ever come across? All of my former PAs have been brilliant and I am extremely lucky in that respect. One stands out because of her ability to juggle and really get under the skin of the business. She got me, got the industry and built strong relationships with my team and my partners. I'm very proud of her. She’s gone on to work with other top names, including Nicky Clarke. I think there may even have been a stint with a Dragon!
