Gold Rush Diary

Questions 1-6 were about the article titled “Gold Rush Diary”. The story was written in the form of a journal entry in a diary. The illustrations showed covered wagons and oxen.

Read the passage together then advance to the next slide .

1. What is the narrator’s biggest problem in this passage?

In paragraph 2, the narrator’s problems are that he misses his parents and that they joined a dusty line of wagons that was very long.

Paragraph 2 says that the destination is the same for everyone: California or bust!

Reread paragraph 3.

Paragraph 4 says that many of them have left behind their jobs and families because the President said that the reports of gold were incredible.

Reread paragraph 5.

Paragraph 5 doesn’t mention the other people in the wagon train.

Reread paragraph 6.

Paragraph 6 only mentions one other miner.

Reread paragraph 7.

Paragraph 7 says that people call them “forty-niners” because they are all heading for California.

Since his polio makes doing all of these things hard for him, the best word for Itzhak is dedicated.
