Opening of the New Buildings & International

Culture Day

Kingsdale Foundation School celebrated its 60th Anniversary

and Opening of the new State of the Art Buildings through

a splendid festival of cultural diversity at the end of the last

term on Sunday 21st July 2019.

It was a spectacular event, where we celebrated our most

unique historic journey in style and welcomed those who

have been a part of our wonderful community over the

course of 60 rollercoaster years. This was a special event

themed around embracing the cultural diversity that exists

within our school and beyond, whilst raising funds for the

charity ‘Mind’ that provides support, advice and services for

better mental health.

The celebration included a flamboyant display of music,

dances, arts, crafts, cuisine, costumes and sports from

countries across the world. The festival was proudly hosted

by the Culture Day Committee, which included students from

across the ages ranges contributing to the celebration of

this day.

The multicultural feast was one of the highlights of the day

with contributions of gourmet style cooking from parents,

students and staff representing a wide variety of cuisines-

Mexican, Indian, Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Creole, Pakistan,

Turkish, to name a few! We had absolutely amazing music

performances by both staff and student bands creating a

vibrant atmosphere. The steel band performances in

Trinidad & Tobago style enthralled the audience, whilst the

African drumming workshops engaged the community in

developing a rhythmic talent. The Kingsdale dancers added

further radiance to the day with the Bollywood and African

dances that were beautifully synchronised and were a real

pleasure to the senses. The festival was also an opportunity

to appreciate the exotic arts and crafts from around the

world, handmade jewellery with every piece made out of

potter’s clay, hair accessories and henna hand art. We had

bouncy castles, henna and face painting, Swedish massage,

multicultural photobooth and cultural stalls from all over the

world.

Our students and staff researched the school’s history and

created several videos and artistic paraphernalia, taking us

down the memory lane on the colourful and exciting life at

Kingsdale. Our new buildings, including the Leisure &

Learning Centre and Sixth Form Extension, opened on the

same day with staff and students from the Physical

Education Department hosting a special opening ceremony.

It was a notable event at Kingsdale and it magnificently

brought together many of those stakeholders who have

been involved in the life of Kingsdale Foundation School for

the last 60 years in a vibrant celebration of the school’s

history, its community, its roller coaster journey, its cultural

diversity, inclusivity and its aspirations to grow and develop

in every way possible. Thanks to all who participated!

More information to follow.
