A Publication of the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce ——————— 423-745-0334 ATHENS BUSINESS JUNE 2015 Volume 29 No. 6 Summer is upon us! I hope everyone is enjoying warm weather and fun activities that go along with the “the good ol’ summertime.” Don’t forget to take advantage of the many fun and fascinating things to do right here in McMinn County! June is a big month for the Athens area as Peyton Manning will be in town on Saturday, June 27th as the guest speaker for the Chamber’s 9th Annual Benefit Dinner. A part of that event will be a moderated question and answer time. The questions will be pre-selected prior to the event. So, if you have a question you would like for Peyton to answer, email it to [email protected]. Between five to ten questions will be selected to ask Peyton that evening. Do you have tickets? Make sure you purchase them before they sell out. A very limited number of tickets are still available and they will not be sold at the door the evening of the event. July 4th is just around the corner. As you make plans for this day, make sure to include our local events in your schedule. The Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration at the L&N Depot in Etowah is a great way to spend the day. The annual Athens Fireworks Show sponsored by local businesses and individuals is always a spectacular event and a wonderful way to end your July 4th celebration. This year’s title sponsors are Denso, McMinn County Tourism, and Kidzcare Pediatric/Dr. Saji Gopinathan. The Sounds of Summer concert featuring Sweet Georgia Sound will also be moved out to the Athens Regional Park that evening as part of the July 4th celebration. The concert will begin at 7:00p.m. followed by the fireworks show at 9:30p.m. Speaking of “Sounds of Summer,” I hope everyone is enjoying these free Saturday evening concerts at the Market Park Pavilion in Downtown Athens. The musical talent is always outstanding and the concerts provide a wonderful way to spend Saturday evenings during the summer. Check out the inside of this newsletter for a concert schedule, make plans to attend as many as you can, and tell Tim Hughes, the visionary and coordinator of Sounds of Summer, thank you for all the effort he puts into this concert series each year. If you are a new chamber member and have not yet set up a ribbon cutting celebration, we want to get a date on the calendar for you. Please contact Kay Simmons (423.745.0334) or email her at [email protected] to schedule your ribbon cutting and photo. Make sure to mark your calendar for this month’s Business Before Hours to be hosted by Athens Movie Palace located at 1436 Decatur Pike, Athens. This meeting will be held Thursday, June 18th from 8:00a.m. to 9:00a.m. and is a great way to network while enjoying a cup of coffee and morning refreshments before you begin your work day. Attendance has been great and I look forward to seeing you there! The Chamber continues to encourage everyone to Shop Local this summer! A unique opportunity will be offered when the Cash Mob shops on Thursday, June 11th. Come be a part of the mob that will shop at The Arts Center where independent consultants for Origami Owl (Amanda Haun), Scentsy (Deborah Cox), and Thirty-One (Michelle Wright) will be offering their products. The Art Market in The Arts Center will be open for cash mobsters, as well. Come out and be part of the mob! When you Shop Local, your sales tax dollars stay here to support our local schools and fund the municipal services we are all blessed to enjoy. For information about upcoming events and to learn more about how the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce can benefit you and your business, please contact the Chamber office at 423.745.0334 and speak to Rob Preston, President/CEO or Kay Simmons, Program Direc- tor or email [email protected], [email protected], or [email protected].
