Therapeutic Touch - hands that heal - Toronto health Therapeutic Touch is a means of treating pain, anxiety and malaise by using a method of healing that is derived from the early 'laying on of hands'. In her book, "Therapeutic Touch A Practical Guide", nurse Janet Macrae says that the "practice of Therapeutic Touch is based on the concept of a subtle, non-physical energy which sustains all living organisms". It has also been described by practitioners as a method of healing by "using their hands to manipulate a "human energy field" perceptible above the patient's skin." Practical Therapeutic Touch as a healing application involves drawing upon this universal energy which is apparently present in and around all of us, and directing its flow toward healing. Many nurses are taught this simple and extremely non-invasive, no-contact healing modality. The nurse, or practitioner, learns how to essentially, use him/herself as an instrument of healing. Many Therapeutic Touch (TT) practitioners consider the healing capacity to be present in all of us, but can be best utilized if the 'healer' has a sense of wholeness or wellness, compassion chiang mai and discipline. The practitioner must intend to improve the condition of the patient and bring about a positive effect.
