There is a Green Parrot in My Tree Copyright 2012 Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation Copies can be ordered online at www.flintcreekwildlife.org or call 847-842-8000 We frequently get calls from people that see one or more green parrots in their tree and think someone lost their pet or, if they see a lot of green parrots, the caller usually thinks that the birds must have escaped from the zoo. If you have a green parrot in the tree and you live in the Chicago area, chances are good that you're seeing a Monk Parakeet. See the photo for identification. Monk Parakeets have established feral (wild) colonies. They live in these large colonies and are capable of surviving Chicago winters. So if the Monk Parakeet you see is uninjured, leave it alone as you have nothing to worry about! If it's injured, then feel free to call us for help as we do treat injured Monk Parrots.
